Re: Anyone have lasix?

  • I had it done in 2008, and DH just got his done 2 weeks ago.  The procedure itself wasn't bad at all for me, it's very quick and painless.  I think the biggest thing that gets to people is nerves.  (If you've been through IF treatments, it will seem like a day at the park, lol)  The recovery for both of us was fine, however it looks like I already may need a tune up.  I had an extremely severe case of astigmatism to start with though, so we knew they may not be able to completely correct my vision in one shot.  It is so worth it!

  • Love it!

I had Lasik in one eye, I had PRK in the other.  I had slight astigmatisms in each eye.

With PRK, they scrape off a layer of the eye and use the laser to reshape the eye.  It takes about a month for the cells to heal back so in the mean time that eye was blurry.  If you do PRK, you usually do one eye at a time.

With Lasik, they make a flap, use the same laser to reshape the eye and put the flap back.  It only took a couple of days to heal.

Since Lasik heals so quickly, I was able to do both eyes at once and still be able to drive and go to work.

My vision is still great.  I did the surgery back in 2003 or so.  I was wearing -5.0 in contacts.

I used FSA dollars in had it done MLK weekend to give me a bit of time to recover/heal.  Did it on a Friday morning and was back at work on Tuesday morning.

  • I am more nervous about it screwing up my vision than anything.

Even though everyone I talk to loves it.

My contacts are -5.50 and -4.75 and climbing. I also have slight astigmatism.

I think that I will wait a little longer!

It's been a long journey. TTC since 9/06. multiple IUI's and IVF's and 4 m/c's. IVF#3 = BFP, twins, induced at 34w6d due to baby b passing away (no explanation). Delivered on 35w1d, Baby A - baby girl, and Baby B - baby boy, our little angel.

  • I did it in 2001.   My contatcts were at like -5.75.  I was blind.

It was the best thing I've ever done though.  I had 20/10 vision right afterwards.  ABout 2 years later, I went to about 20/35 in one eye and had that touched up.  During the touch up, I had a few cells seep into the flap/opening and they started growing, obstructuing my vision.  I had to go in to get the cells scraped away.  I'm fine now and despite needing the touch up and the re-do, I would still do it again!  Best $3,600 I ever spent!

It was a piece of cake.  I slept the day of surgery and was fine about 48 hours later.  I went to the place that did Tiger Woods' eyes so I was in good hands.  Just make sure you go to an expereinced place.

  • I would be too nervous to do it.  These are my eyes you're talking about.  What if something went wrong.   I have an astigmatism and I've heard stories where people can't see driving at night because of haloing lights or something called ghosting.

I've worn glasses fulltime for the last 30 years and for now that's fine.   I don't even wear contacts since the thought of sticking my finger in my eye doesn't appeal to me.

  • I had mine done in 2000 & it was awesome.  Then, the hormonal roller coaster set in and my eyes are terrible now.  Doc said not to do the lasik surgery again until after my hormones settle (i.e. even after menopause).

Mine were worse than this, and now are perfect.  Huge fan of Lasik.  I was hesitant for a long time, but so glad I did it (nearly five yrs ago in anticipation of TTC, funny right?).  I got to the point where I couldn't see anything without my glasses (at night) or contacts (day), so it finally needed to be done.  It was creepy during the procedure during itself, but it's really fast.  They say to have it done either 6 mos before getting pg or after you are done BFing, since pg hormones mess up your eyes.

  • Besides IVF, it's the best money I've ever spent. My Mom had it done when it first came out and she had some haloing effects (we're talking 15 years ago) but I did it 2 years ago and couldn't be happier. I had astigmatism as well and had heard it may not be as effective, but I have no complaints. I also did a lot of research and went to the most reputable doctor in town, he definitely cost more, but I wasn't taking chances at all with my eyes.

2 IVFs & 1 FET. Welcome home baby girl!
