Ok girls, I want my body back

Need your suggestions for WORKOUT VIDEOS!!!

Pre-twins I was 125 lbs of lean mean military skinny-*** LOL!  I am so far from that right now.  I haven't done a leg lift in 2 years.  My boys are 14 months old now!!!  The pregnancy was mostly bed-rest, the 1st year of their life I was alone in a crappy town w/ crappy weather...  No excuses but I'm a physical mess.

I joined the YMCA cuz they have a child-watch program but all that got us was sick all the time!  So, since I stay at home, I need to start getting my butt in gear at home.  I need to lose at least 3 inches in order to fit in my clothes.  Yes, I've been wearing nursing tanks and yoga pants every day since the babies were born!!

So I need a video that does not kick my ass, like INsanity!  Something w/ cardo, fat burning, and focus on abs.  I still look 5 months prego (w/ a singleton) Thank you so much for your suggestions!

Re: Ok girls, I want my body back

  • I like the Jillian Michaels DVDs.  I am always exhausted, drenched and in pain for the 3 days following doing one of her videos.  I also try to do yoga 1-2x a week on exercise tv.  I find that the yoga definitely helps with the inches.
U/S#1 showed 2 heartbeats! U/S#2 showed Baby A's heartbeat was 157 and Baby B 's heartbeat was 183! U/S#4 showed Baby A is a Boy (heartbeat 161) and Baby B is a Girl (heartbeat 159)!! Lilypie Second Birthday tickers
  • you may have seen the infomercials for p90x but i'm telling you it is no joke!!! it's an hour a day 6 days a week and they give you a meal planner. i saw you didn't like insanity, p90x or even power90 aren't all cardio. i was grosely out of shape when i started them and had great results. if you can't finish you can't finish no big deal. but eventually you'll be able to.

  • I second Jillian Michael's for a good starting point.

  • When I was in NY and had no child care options at the local gym, I took to workout videos and did a LOT of walking or jogging with the double stroller whenever the weather permitted. Even if it was freezing and snowy, we'd head to the mall and I'd walk that thing!I figured it was better than just staying in cooped up at the house!

As far as workout videos, I just went to our library and tested out a few before buying. The Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred was challenging and yet practical for time constraints (less than 30 min. workouts and yet they'd whoop my butt). I bought it for cheap off of amazon. Denise Austin had a boot camp video that gave more cardio and sculpting.

    HTH and GL!!

  • 30 day shred by jillian michaels is a great workout. Especially when you're just getting back into it. I was a long way from where I wanted to be weight wise before I got PG, and I'm sure I'll be in yoga pants forever after the twins too. This video is waiting for me when I can start back up.

  • I don't have any video experience personally, but I know people seem to love P90X and Insanity. I also wanted to add that what you do for a workout isn't nearly as important as what you eat and how much. I actually cut back on my cardio and counted calories when I was working on fat loss.I also aimed for 100-125g of protein a day, and ate at a deficit 5 days a week, while the other two were at maintenance calorie levels.

After the babies are here, I plan to get a TRX system. It's a suspension trainer you connect to a door frame. (I also already have a lot of weights and a treadmill). But I know that to lose the fat, I have to be careful about total calories in a day.

I am not delusional and think it will be as easy after twin pregnancy, but I know I have done it before and can do it again.

  • I highly recommend Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred as a starting point. It is only 20 minutes and really kicks butt. Once I got through the first 30 days I moved onto her other DVD's and really like No More Trouble Zones, it is an all over workout, or you can concentrate on certain circuits/problem areas you want to work on. I am back on this right now since I am trying to lose 8 lbs I put on about a year ago after being on a heavy dose of steroid for 6 weeks. I did the 30DS first to ease back in and now I do cardio at the Y (or on my exercise bike at home) 3 days a week and Jillian DVD the other 3 days a week. I have lost 2 inches so far and my clothes are starting to fit better. I am hoping to lose another inch this month doing this routine. If I don't end up losing the 8 lbs I will deal with it as long as I am losing inches and my clothes are fitting better. I refuse to go up another size.

  • Also a big fan of the Jillian Michaels DVDs.  I would do them a few times a week pre-pregnancy and was always sore.  Great workout and it's only about 30min I think.

Tone It Up -- either their Jane Fonda series (I think you can get it through collage video) or their One Day Fat Blast.

Tone It Up also has great YouTube videos that you can use to help make a workout routine.  They are all about strengthening and toning, not "skinny fat."

Also -- I highly recommend training for something, like a race or mud run or obstacle course.  It adds motivation and determination when you may not always feel like doing something.

GL!  I can't wait to get back in to a workout routine myself, haha.

  • Maygen,  I am SO jealous of you right now.  Being almost 18 weeks, I really haven't done much at all throughout the pregnancy.  I worked out 3-4 times a week before, and working out does so much for you mentally.  MISSS it....

I have the biggest loser DVD's and the 30 day shred.  I love them all......  Don't get discouraged though and keep at it.  Training for something has always helped me stay focused, if you can tolerate running or even walking...5K, etc??  Since you're able to stay at home, you could try breaking up your cardio into 10/15 segments throughout the day.  Getting those sweet babies out for a walk either outside or the mall, would certainly help too.  Good luck!!  I'm sure I'll be seeking the same motivation within the next year.
