...in my right fallopian tube.
I just got home from my HSG. The test showed one clear tube but the dye would not go into the other one. The doctor said it could be a blockage or it could be that the dye just all went into the left tube because it was more open than the right (dye taking the path of least resistance). She also said they would have to monitor me to make sure I don't have an ectopic.
I feel kind of weird about all this. I guess I figured I would have one of two outcomes: 1) everything looks great or 2) everything isn't great but we can do x or y to fix it. Instead what she said was, "You only need one good tube to get pregnant." Um, OK, but does that reduce my odds at all? It seems like it would. The HSG was not performed by one of my normal care providers so I'll be having a conversation with them in the next few days about it, but for now I just feel sort of...let down.
On the bright side, my uterus looks good (I know you were all up at night worrying about that), they didn't find any polyps or anything else that shouldn't have been there, the doxycycline and double dose of ibuprofen did not make me barf, and hey! I have at least one good tube! I treated myself and my left tube to Pinkberry.

I hope you and the left both enjoyed your Pinkberry.
Maybe the right one can be bribed to behave better with more Pinkberry??
I'm sorry you got disappointing news, but overall it sounds like the HSG was good. And it absolutely only takes one to make a baby. I'm sure your doctor will know a lot more than I do, but I wonder if they will encourage you to have some monitoring done during your next cycles. That way you would know which ovary was gearing up to ovulate. They may also suggest the clomid in order to increase the chances that your left ovary will ovulate (maybe in addition to your right, since clomid ups the chances of multiple eggs).
Give us an update later in the week on how your next conversation goes!

Cautiously optimistic.
I've been thinking this is probably the likely scenario. Unmonitored, unmedicated IUIs may be too much of a gamble if I really only have one good tube. The frustrating part of this is that I was supposed to do an IUI this cycle, but I already missed the window for Clomid. I had planned to do one more unmedicated but now it seems like that may not be worthwhile. We took December off and I was REALLY looking forward to getting back in the game in January, but I'd rather waste a cycle than a vial of sperm.

Well, I am a bit biased, because we made the assessment from the beginning that we would rather deal with the medical intervention than take the risk of wasting expensive sperm.... BUT - do you have clear signs of ovulation? If your temping and all the other signs do give you a clear indication, I'd probably be inclined to finish your established plan and give this cycle a try. Or maybe your regular doctor can do one u/s at day 12 or 13 (assuming you O on day 14ish; adjust as necessary if your cycle is different) and assess which if any follicles are growing. If the correct side is growing, you could be a go for unmedicated IUI, and if it's the wrong side you could pass on the cycle.

You know, I always forget you can have monitoring without the Clomid. We've been so low intervention so far that I am still learning the ins and outs of RE land. Yes, I don't see why that wouldn't work. It is pretty clear from my charts that I ovulate every month, and not until around CD 19 (today's CD 9), so I have time to put that plan into place. Good point, Kershnic!
