So after all the bumper debates (early on) made me want to research it more. According to the JPMA and CPSC between the years 1985 and 2005 there has only been 27 reported crib deaths. Most of which have not been due to bumpers alone. I also looked it up on the federal law enforcement of consumer products death investigation and most cases were deemed to be staged. Also most deaths were due to plastic bumpers and bumpers that were too thick or loose. There was also a lawsuit filled by a few companies against "breathable" bumpers for slander and false information.I'm not saying either is better then the other just information.

Re: Crib bumpers
We have used our bumpers since day 1 of Ty in his crib (5 days old) and haven't had any issues. scares, etc. I tried taking them out once when I needed to remove them to elevate the mattress and he wanted nothing to do with sleep when I did that. We put them back and fast asleep he went, no complaints!
I will re-evaluate removing them soon, once he starts sitting up in his crib. I don't want him using them as leverage to pull himself up at all, but once we move his crib down that may not really be an issue!
We'll see.
