Success after IF

My aunt is having a hysterectomy this week :(

She's 68 and her uterine lining keeps thickening, when it should be quiet since she's way past menopause.  She's had 2 D&C's in the past 2 years to scrape out the excess lining, and it keeps growing back.  This last time they biopsied it and its Stage 1 uterine cancer.  UGH.  She had a rough pregnancy history too (lost twin girls who were born too early) and she's always been very emotionally supportive to me ever since my traumatic pregnancy. I'm even named after one of the angel daughters.  I wish she didn't have to go through this.  I'm worried for my cousins too, her 3 daughters, hoping won't have any issues later on.

Re: My aunt is having a hysterectomy this week :(

  • What a hard hand of cards to be delt for your aunt. I hope she is doing okay once the hysterectomy is done. She is in my thoughts.

  • Ugh... she's had a tough road!

If it helps any at all my SIL had a hysterectomy in early December.  She was totally prepared for the worst and has been so surprised at how much better the recovery has gone that she expected.

She told me that the up side for her was that she was SO over bleeding every single day of her life and was amazed to have relief from that issue immediately after surgery so she thinks having physical relief from the bleeding and pain she'd lived with for years (fibroids and BAD endo) helped her see the glass as half full from the get go.

I hope that she's able to find peace and a good prognosis once the cancer is gone and that it helps her thru the process of recovery.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • My mom had a hysterectomy in her 40s due to uterine cancer. It's a scary thing to undergo, but as PP said, it's for a good reason. Since my mom was so young she never had any other symptoms of menopause, and the hysterectomy threw her straight into that. It was a rough year for us. I felt like we taught ALL the time (which is actually rare in our relationship). I can't stress how important staying on hormone therapy is.

None the less, I wish your aunt good luck!

  • My mom had a hysterectomy about 10 years ago for similar bleeding.  I don't know why bodies just don't behave as they should.  My grandmother (maternal) had uterine cancer as well.  Loads of sympathy to you, your aunt and your cousins.

Hopefully she'll recover quickly and will be like my ex-boyfriend's mother and tell you all the time how much she loves her hysterectomy.  Okay probably not but that woman cracked me up (so much so that I remember the story clear as day nearly 17 years later).

  • Thanks everyone, it means a lot!  Meanwhile, my other aunt just had a mini stroke last night.  These are both my dad's sisters, so that side of the family isn't doing too well right now! :(
