Pepto bismol in pregnancy?

Hi! I'm nine weeks along and have been dealing with a lot of indigestion. For the past two weeks or so I've been taking a dose of pepto bismol a few times a week. I'd read somewhere that it was OK, and now I read that it's NOT OK because the salicylates can go across the placenta. Any nurses or doctors out there have opinions about this? I'm obviously not going to take any more but now I'm very worried about any damage that may have already been done.

Thanks!

  • For some reason I'm thinking no to pepto. I'm pretty sure they recommend tums, maalox or Zantac.

  • I've also heard no Pepto Bismol because of the salicylates (which is basically aspirin). But there's nothing you can do about already taking it. Just try not to stress and avoid taking it from now on.

  • I wouldn't take it.  do tums.

  • When I was 10 weeks, the pharmacist told me NO to Pepto. She said Tums was fine, or Rolaids, but NO Pepto. I didn't ask why though

  • No to pepto, I took it a lot in the start of first trimester before I found out I was pregnant... My baby is fine. Just stop taking it now.

  • No to pepto, there is an ingredient in it that isn't safe for pregnancy.  When I got pregnant with my first DH's co worker's wife was a pharmacist and she told me that right away.

Tums, and Zantac are my go to for heartburn, stomach issues.

  • DON'T stress about what you didn't know before hand. It'snot on my safe list either, but a few doses before you knew it was bad won't do any real harm. Just don't take it anymore.
  • I took Pepto a few times last week before I found out I was pregnant.  What do you take then for diarrhea?  I know constipation is a big sign of prenancy, but it's been the exact opposite for me, and has been for around a week.  I haven't been sick or nauseous or anything, just dealing with that.
