Success after IF

Chemical pregnancy questions

I'm pretty sure I'm dealing with one now and it blows!  I had a clear BFP on on FRER on 13dpo.  A much lighter BFP on a blue test at 14dpo, and an almost invisible second line this morning at 15dpo on an FRER.  My RE does not do blood work if you were not cycling (ironically we had an appt booked for this week to see about cycling for #2 which I stupidly cancelled), and I wouldn't be able to get into my gp for at least a week so I don't see a point to getting a beta through them.

Anyway it sucks.  Poor DH broke down when I told him about this morning's near negative test.  We really thought this was going to be our exciting surprise for the new year.  Not so much.  Couple of questions, when will AF show up?  Do you have a normal cycle after a cp? Would we be fine to try again on our own next month or should we take a break?  Time to rebook that consult for #2 appt.  I'm seriously annoyed at myself for canceling.  I should have played dumb and just said "oh yeah my period's a bit late". URGH.

Re: Chemical pregnancy questions

  • I don't know anything about chemical pregnancies, but my FRERs never had a dark line, even after I had a beta. Get the same test you have been testing on before drawing conclusions from the FRER.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • Your OB should run beta/progesterone for you if you want it done.  Most can get you in the day of the call for the blood work if you tell them you've got something wonky going on.

Remember that pee stick darkness can be a tricky thing so I'm gonna hang on to some hope for you and encourage you to get a doubling beta unless your pee sticks go stark white just so you can see what's going on.

    If it's a CP:

When will AF show?  For most it's when your progesterone drops low enough (see why it's handy to get the labs done?).  It's going to be different for everyone.  For me it was a full 2 weeks after my AF was due but I had rising but non-doubling betas.

Cycle after a CP?  For some it can be totally normal but it can also cause a delayed ovulation depending on how your levels come down.

TTC again?  Some docs say wait but most say go for it.

Hugs to you.  The waiting and not knowing what's up sucks.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • Thanks girls.  I think to save some of my sanity I will wait until Monday and if AF hasn't shown, I'll call the gp and get some blood work. No more tests until then either!

  • I am in the midst of one myself. My pee sticks did the same damn thing, my beta was 27, then they wanted to follow them to zero, so I went back in, my damn beta doubled it was 170, so I went back, yeah pregnant... uh no beta went down to 97, so a week later which was yesterday it was 37... I go back next week to see if I am at zero yet. Still no period and according to my RE you should be followed to zero, in case it's in your tubes or something. Sorry to be all debbie downer, but I am having one now.

Sooooo I wait and my RE is okay with starting a cycle as soon as I am at zero and have had bleeding. I did have RPL testing because it's my second loss even though my first one was when I was 20.

  • I wouldn't consider it a CP unless you start bleeding. Darkness of the test has to do more with the amount of dye in that particular test than with how pg you are.

And all CPs can be different. I cycled as usual after mine.

  • I hope that AF stays away and you get some happy news!  (((HUGS)))
  • Ugh, I'm sorry.  This stuff is so hard.

After my c/p I passed a large clot and had a really fierce AF.  It lasted about a week.  My RE was going to schedule me for a FET directly following the c/p, so I'm not sure you have to wait to cycle/try again.

Best of luck to you.  ((HUGS))

  • I really appreciate you all taking the time to answer my questions and share your experiences. It sucks that anyone has to go through this.
