When did I conceive?

My hubby and I decided to try to conceive. The first day of my last period was Dec. 9th, however my period was very light and only last 4 days instead of the usual 6 or 7 days.. I had three positive HPT on Dec. 31st. I'm confused as to when I conceived, is it possible that the HPT showed up positive after only three weeks? Or, is it possible that I got pregnant before Dec 9th, but still had a light, irregular period? Any input is appreciated, and i'm not exactly sure if this is the right place for questions, i'm new here. Thanks!

Both options are possible. How long are your cycles normally? If you normally have a very short cycle (21 days total) then it's definitely possible that your period on Dec. 9th was "real" and you are very recently pregnant. If your cycles are typically longer (so you ovulate on day 14 or later) then I would say it is more likely that your "period" was some other form of bleeding. Honestly, I don't think anyone here is going to be able to answer your question. Your best bet is going to be to ask for a dating ultrasound from your OB's office.

The only way you will know how far along you are (hence when you conceived) will be from a dating ultrasound. We can't tell you when you ovulated and unless you were temping/charging/taking OPK's you won't know when you ovulated.
