My doctor seems to think thats what happened since i had mild cramping, bleeding, no clotting, hormone levels drop (and then rise again) plus all my pregnancy symptoms being worse... has anyone been through this before?
I didn't have any symptoms- just some brownish discharge which is super normal. But at my first two early ultrasounds (I did IVF and had several vaginal u/s) there was a distinct second sac, half the size of the other one. At the second u/s, we even saw a flutter of a heartbeat. At the third, there was no sign of it anywhere, and my doctor cited vanishing twin syndrome. My pregnancy symptoms were actually pretty terrible for a while before the last u/s, though. The morning sickness in particular was pretty brutal.
My doctor said that the second sac really just "gets absorbed," so I'm not sure how that factors in to cramping and whatnot.

I don't mean to question you, but if they never saw anything on the ultrasounds, I don't understand how they come to the vanishing twin conclusion. Fluctuating betas can be caused by a number of things, this probably being the least common.
they estimated me to be 4 weeks when i first seen her and she said with my hormone levels still really high it was possible for twins. I have all the symptoms and with my morning sickness being as bad as it was it all fit into place she wasn't sure if that was it but with the bleeding like it was with no clotting its a major possibility because like
K8says said the other live baby just absorbs whats left of the other one and the only symptoms i had go to the Vanishing Twin Syndrome and she is pretty sure the reason why they couldn't see anything on the ultrasound was it was to early to see anything. They are doing another one tomorrow to see whats going on

But from your other posts, they only thought you were 4 weeks because they couldn't see anything, which doesn't correspond to your betas. The whole story has been confusing from the first of your myriad of posts, so I look forward to some actual answers instead of all this speculation based on almost zero information... as I'm sure you are too.
Also, lots of people have bleeding, including me, and it is not a vanishing twin.
I had a twin vanish with this pregnancy. They were visualized on u/s at 5 weeks and at a followup u/s the twin was gone. Today's u/s showed nothing left.
I did have some severe cramping one night with bleeding.

OMG, this. None of your stories make sense. I had fluctuating betas, spotting (WITH NO CLOTTING, not sure why you keep pointing this out as if it determines anything) with my missed miscarriage. Wasn't the vanishing twin concept your moms idea?

I had one. I had some mild cramping and brown discharge at 6 weeks. The doc sent me for an ultrasound and bloodwork right away, and we saw our baby and it's heartbeat. Right above him/her was a sac that was breaking up and discharging, which is what the bleeding was. I bled for a full week, then it went away. All my blood levels are fine now, and the surviving baby is doing fine so far.

Don't know if that helped, but that's my story...
