When did LO start using a pillow?

The past few nights, DD has been using her bumper as a pillow to lay her head on.  I'm wondering if she would like a small toddler pillow?  I haven't researched it much, and don't know what his the safe/appropriate age.  They are 17 mos old.  Anyone else start using one this early?  What kind did you get?

We gave Anna one (the toddler pillow from pbk) at 18 months when she started balling up her blanket and using that as a pillow.   I felt better with her sleeping on something that was intended for use as a pillow rather than a fuzzy blanket!

we gave DS our flatest guest pillow a couple of months ago...so..around 15 months.  He had started to really enjoy laying his head on pillows when he was in our bed, watching tv.

I've thought about giving DD one, but she's a tummy sleeper so I don't think she'd use it.  At 17 months I think it's fine.

Just last week!  And he loves it, actually puts it over his head instead of putting his head on it.  I gave him one of mine, without the pillow case.

We gave one to Jacob about 6 months ago, but he doesn't ever sleep on it.  He either pushes it to the side or he throws it out of the crib.  He's a tummy sleeper, so I'm guessing that he doesn't want/need a pillow right now.

At the risk of being sent to DCFS, I'll tell you that we gave Will a pillow at 10 or 11 months. He had a bit of a cold and was sleeping SO much better on our pillows that we got him a flat toddler pillow of his own for his crib. He rolls around a lot and is off and on it all the time, but has always done well with it.

Hayden has had a pillow since around 18 months or so. He doesn't use it much and prefers to sleep flat but there are times he will use it. In the last month or so he has started using it more. My mom made him a tie blanket and matching tie pillow for christmas so he has been loving that.

I haven't given DD one yet, but I often find her using her stuffed bunny as a pillow. She just turned 1.

I don't remember exactly but it was sometime around a year old (I think...man, I should be better about this stuff). Definitely by 17 months.

At first she used a small pillow my mom made to go on the window seat in her room. She still uses those (there are 4) but we also got a flatish pillow from IKEA that goes with the down comforter we're using now that it's cold.

J started sleeping with a pillow at the end of November (almost 17 months) when we moved in to our new place. We got him some new sheets from IKEA and the set came with a pillow case so we got him the IKEA toddler pillow. He loves playing with the corners of the pillows (weird I know) so he's a huge fan.
