I think Michael is popular everywhere but for good reason. I personally don't know any little Michaels though. I think Mikey is adorable and Mike is a good, solid nickname for a Michael of any age.
Michael is a family name for me, and I have a huge family, so I know a ton of Michaels. While the large majority of them are adults, I do know 3 under 5. Outside of my family, though, I can't really think of any young Michaels.

Micah is more common than Michael where I live now. Michael is more popular where I'm from. I think both are great names. I prefer the formal names to the nicknames Mike or Mikey.
My DH is a Michael and he never went by Mike or Mikey. Just not his personality. I think it's a great, timeless name, and even though it was the most popular boy's name of his birth year, he only knew a few growing up.
In my 9 years of teaching, I have had 4 or 5 Michaels. All of them have gone by Michael. I think it's a great name...common, but a refreshing change from all the -aden names.
