I'm tired and emotional so excuse my rambling.
The entire time that I was in FL with my mom, who is dying from brain cancer, my beautiful niece and nephew took care of DS 100%. They allowed me much needed time with my mother. DH hung out with them in the afternoons, but my twin niece and nephew did everything else: fed him, bathed him, cuddled him, entertained him, read him books and put him to bed -- you name it. My heart is very full. DS cried tonight bc he misses them so much and I don't blame him!
These freaking awesome kids are 14 years old and as some of you know were adopted and formerly lived a horrible, isolated life for their first 7 years (house-bound, never outside, no bathing, and literally starved). The paperwork may say we are not blood relatives but whatever -- those amazing kids are 100% my niece and nephew in our blood, our heart, etc. Thank God they are in our lives. Their level of maturity, love, smarts and affection are overwhelming. They have made my sister -- who is kind of a biitch -- a more loving and better person. They convinced my neat freak sister to get them a dog and you have NEVER seen a dog more loved, brushed, cleaned and trained by everyone in that family -- interestingly, they adopted a dog that was basically alone in a dark garage for the first year of its life.
So things suck with my mom and they suck bad, but they were like a beacon of light to come home to after 12 hours in a hospital. And I also want to mention that the twins help my sick mom with anything she needs -- including helping her wash, hugging her when she doesn't smell too nice, etc.
Re: A few shining lights
This made me teary eyed. I'm glad you have amazing support around in this time of need. The harder it gets, you'll need that support even more.
Can I ask, you can pm me if you want- Where is your mom in Florida?

I was just wondering how you and your mom are....I'm glad you got to spend some time with her, and how awesome that your son had some great caretakers! What a blessing - I hope they realize just how great they are.
Much love to you - I'm sure this is beyond difficult. Know that you're in my T&P.
justEK -- they are in West Palm Beach. I find the hospitals and health care facilities down there leave a lot to be desired. But maybe it's like that everywhere. Or maybe bc they are so many elderly people places are just overwhelmed.
Thanks everyone, Sorry for dumping it all out.
That's awesome. I love it when I see young people surpassing our expectations. My DH's cousin has grown into a lovely young man and has entertained/kept safe our boys and our two young nieces since they were born.
I'm so sorry about your mom. I don't know if you remember, but I lost my dad to lung cancer back in May. It's heartbreaking to lose a parent (and grandparent to your child). My heart is with you and your family.
