Is anyone taking Unisom?

Is anyone taking Unisom for m/s?  If so, what dose and which one- the gel caps or the sleeptabs?  And has it been helping?  I've been taking Zofran which was helping but the last few days I've still been very sick.

Thanks!!

Re: Is anyone taking Unisom?

  • Glad you posted this. I would like to know also. I want to try it if it truly does work.

  • I am taking it, but only 1/2 tablet at night, it worked with my when I was pg with my DS so I am giving it another try, it seems to hold me over pretty well...m/s wise I mean.  I don't plan to stop it anytime soon, plus it helps me sleep at night.  Hope this helps ladies!

BTW-I don't take a full 25mg tablet cuz I was way too tired the next morning!

  • I tried it, but the vitamin B6 actually helped so much that I only took the unisom once or twice.  I still felt queasy & not great using the B6, but I was able to function and not be vomiting.

  • Yes. I take it with my prenatal vitamin each night before bed. If I am feeling REALLY sick, like I cannot function, then I will take a Zofran. The Unisom works bc it seems that the vitamin makes me ill. Keep a snack at your bedside. Taking anything on an empty stomach seems to magnify m/s.

  • My doctor told me to try taking 25mg of B6 with half of a unisom tablet 3 times a day. I did some research before trying it and found that those two ingredients together are the same as an over the counter drug for nausea called Benedectine. This was used to treat morning sickness from the 50's-early 80's, then taken off the shelves due to more and more cases rising of birth defects. Mother's taking Benedectine for morning sickness were giving birth to babies with missing limbs, facial features, etc. So I decided not to take the combination. I would rather feel sick for a couple of weeks out of my life and have a healthy baby.

  • My doctor suggested taking a half (tablet) of unisom before I went to bed.. I did that last night and didn't have any trouble getting up this morning, and no nausea or vomiting so far (which is awesome for me right now) I take 50 mg of b6 with breakfast, and another 50mg of b6 with supper...
