Baby smells like vinegar?

DS has had a cold for about 5 days now and has started to smell like vinegar again today (this happened once before).  I googled (i know, i know) and it says it could be an ear infection.  The smell is definitely coming from his right ear and it's a very strong vinegar smell.  He is also super fussy but doesn't have a fever.

Anyone go through this or find out the smell was correlated to an ear infection?

we have gone through an ear infection, but no vinegar smell.  I would make an appointment with the pedi to check it out.  Morgan had a terrible virus with high fever - the day the fever went down to normal was the day the doctor said she had an ear infection (we saw him earlier that week and she had no infection).  Though she had no fever she still took the required course of antibiotics.

I called the pedi and got in and he said no ear infection.  The smell of vinegar is so strong and when I mentioned it to my dad, he said "oh, he's teething."  Apparently all of us smelled like vinegar when we were teething as babies and he remembers that.  He said vinegar or ammonia are the two tell-tale signs.  The funny thing?  His pediatrician mentioned that his top 2 teeth are close to coming through.

S has had some sour-smelling diapers lately, and did just go in for an ear infection. Interesting.
