I've been BFing, then waiting an hour and doing solids. Next week, I'm going to start having day care give LO solids, and I asked the pedi if I should do solids immediately after a bottle or space it out. She actually recommended that I do solids first so I would have "more success" with getting him to eat the solids. Then finish with a bottle. What do you do?
(I should note that I told the pedi that LO hates veggies or cereal that is not sweetened with a fruit puree. She wants me to start him on meat and get him used to veggies that aren't sweetened. Also, DS has dropped to the 50th %ile and she wants him to get more calories during the day. So her advice about solids first might be related to that.)
Re: Solids & bottles/BFing--how do you do meals??
I have them do bottle first. If we offer her solids when she's hungry she'll have a meltdown and throw a fit and not eat anything (although we are doing BLW, so I think she gets frustrated trying to do it herself when she's starving instead of having fun exploring the food like she does when she's not really hungry).
If you do decide to do solids first, tell daycare to keep an eye on his milk consumption. If he starts taking less milk, it's counterproductive because breastmilk has more calories per oz than most solid foods.
I know you said Solids and Bottles also, so I am not BFing, but was going to chime in. We do solids first and then offer the bottle. He never has a problem finishing up either. Just what we do ;-)
