At what gestational age can an U/S detect hb?

I can't find good info when I Google so please weigh in if you can help.  

Here's my situation-my first doctor's appointment is Tuesday and at that appointment they'll schedule my first ultrasound probably a week later (maybe less).  So I would be about 6 1/2 weeks along based on when I "think" I conceived but 9 weeks based on LMP.  Their policy is to go by LMP unless the dating ultrasound shows differently.  

Should I insist on having a later ultrasound or just do whatever the OB recommends?  I really don't want to go in and freak out because there's no hb when it could just be because I'm not far enough along.   

I know I'm over thinking this, but WDYT?

I think at 6 week baby has a HB- so you should be able to see it - if you indeed are tayht far along.  google ultrasounds.  Or search on here other ppl's ultrasounds- and ask around.  lol

Thanks.  I thought 6 weeks was about right but am finding information overload on Google!

agree with PP - i had an ultrasound at 5 weeks with no HB, but at my 6 1/2 week one, had HB...

I saw the HB at 6w2d.

I saw the heartbeat at 6w1d.

We saw a heartbeat at 6w3d, and at that time I was under the impression I was a week further along-so we also learned that the baby measured a week smaller, I had another US today (2 weeks later) and saw the heartbeat again and baby measuring right on track! You will probably not HEAR a heartbeat and it will most likely be a transvaginal ultrasound at this early point. Best of luck!

I saw the heart beating at 5w6d, so you should be fine.

I saw no heartbeat at 6 weeks 1 day, and a good heartbeat yesterday at 7 weeks. It is quite possible to not see it until after 6 and a half weeks. Things happen quickly in a matter of days. You should be fine, but waiting even a few more days will make the odds of seeing it much more certain.

The hb is first visible between 6 and 7 weeks.  I had an abdominal u/s at 6w 3d and we could see it.

I was 6ish weeks when we saw ours. You won't be able to hear it until later on, I think closer to 10-12 weeks.

With my first preg we saw the HB at 5wks 4 or 5 days--so you should be ok--

My OB does not like to do u/s or a doppler until 12 weeks bc sometimes, a hb cannot be detected with the baby is so itty bitty.
