For those that went on hospital bedrest..

Did you have to stay in the hospital until you delivered or did you get treated and then sent home for bedrest?  I have 2 other children and would be so sad if I had to stay in the hospital without them.  I know it's about the twins but I'm so terrified of the whole "hospital bedrest" idea.  Just curious.  Thanks.

Re: For those that went on hospital bedrest..

  • I went in at 31 weeks due to PTL and stayed for 3 weeks until they released me.  They would no longer stop labor at 34 weeks, which is why they let me go home.  I was 3 cm dilated after going into PTL, which is why I was kept on hospital bedrest.

GL - hopefully you won't even have to do any hospital bedrest at all!

  • Well, it depends. I had IC so yeah...was there until I delivered. For two months. But I was already on bedrest for two months at home. It was just that my cervix wasn't behaving. Hospital bedrest does suck but yours could be different. I had a lot of "roomates" and they all came and went. They also were able to get up and use the bathroom/shower, but I wasn't.

  • I ask because when I was 5 my grandma was in a terrible car accident so my mom would stay at the hospital with her at night.  It was sooooo traumatic to me.  I would cry for my mom each night.  My daughter is almost 5 so I just think about that.  I will just pray for the best.  I know it would be temporary.  Thanks for the info!
  • I went on hospital BR at 28w, after 6w of bedrest at home. My cervix was still shortening and when it got down to 2.0 (with no contractions), they admitted me and told me I could expect to stay until I delivered. However, when I got to 32w, my cervix was still at 2.0 and I had maybe one contraction the entire time I was there, so they let me go home (so I stayed 4 weeks).

I then did another 3 weeks of bedrest at home. They let me off bedrest at 35w b/c they wanted me to get my legs back and b/c they weren't going to stop labor at that point (plus my cervix was still at 2.0). I delivered at 36w4d due to rising blood pressure.

  • It really depends on why you are on hospital bed rest.  I was in there for close monitoring via NSTs and ultrasounds for a placenta/cord flow problem.  Since I was admitted at 24 weeks, we were just trying to get further along to give them a better chance at delivery.  There was no chance I was going home and I was at a hospital 100 miles away.  It sucked...
  • I went in on a Monday at 32w4d and was released on Friday at 33w1d.  I was then on BR at home until 36w.
  • I have IC and will be here until I deliver! I have 3 kids at home and so far they understand what is going on and that I will be in the hospital to help the babies. My 2 year has been sick but so far so good.

  • I went on hospital bedrest around 27 weeks for IC and PTL and I stayed there until I delivered. My water broke at 32 weeks.

  • I went on hospital bed rest @ 32w due to pih.  I stayed there until I delivered exactly 4w later.  It would be difficult having older children on bed rest, but if it comes down to it you'll do great.

I wouldn't worry unless and until your doc proposes hospital bed rest.  I don't think its all that common.  GL and I hope you're able to avoid it!

  • I am currently on hospital bedrest and DD2 is having a hard time with it. She has cried when she left here :( DD1 was fine with it.

I've only been here since yesterday afternoon and am hoping to be sent home this weekend (they were able to completely stop my contractions and my cervical length is still decent).
