1st Trimester

How far along am I?

According to when my LMP was (Nov 22) I should be 6 weeks along. However, my cycle was normally 34 days long, about 6 days longer than the average 28 day cycle. So does that mean I am really 5 weeks or should I just stick with the 6 weeks? I hope this isn't confusing. TIA

Re: How far along am I?

  • Your OB will likely go by your LMP (even if your cycle is not textbook 28 days).  Some OBs do a dating u/s around 8 weeks, if so you will go by that date since those u/s are the most accurate.

  • Your OB will take that into consideration.  You may be more towards 5wks than 6.

  • Whichever you prefer.  When you see your doctor, talk to them about it.  Chances are they will do a dating ultrasound then you will know for sure.

Based on my LMP (11/14) I should be 7 weeks 1 day but I am choosing to say I'm 4 1/2 weeks until I get an official due date (based on when I think I conceived).  I would rather gain time than lose time, KWIM?

  • Your OB will go by your LMP until an u/s shows otherwise. HOWEVER....since you know your cycles are long, mention it to your OB, and be prepared for some "confusing" U/S results. I have long cycles as well, and ovulate late, I was measuring three weeks behind on my first U/S which led to panic, a "50/50" miscarriage diagnoses, and a whole lot of stress.

So, to answer your question, I would use your LMP, since you aren't for sure when you ovulated, and then change your EDD/how far along you are based on U/S results.

    Hope that helps!

  • Went for my 2 u/s today and had this confirmed. I have 36-38 day cycles so was not sure how far along I really was. Going off of my LMP and I would have been 8w1d today but the u/s tech said that I am 7w1d which is what takes my longer cycles into account. I would say figure out using your LMP and take a week off, at least until an u/s can tell you more. Hope this helps out some.

  • Your OB will take everything into consideration. If my OB went by my LMP I'd be nearly two weeks ahead of where I am. I think they all handle it a little bit differently and factor in different things because ovulation can vary slightly from what we believe it to be. Though, I do realize some women have it down to a science :) GL!

  • Some docs only go by LMP no matter what, even though that's kinda dumb since the textbook day 14 ovulation is NOT textbook. But since you don't know when you ovulated, giving your LMP and acknowledging your long cycles are as close as you can get. It will give everyone enough room to know roughly how far along you should be.

My LMP was November 22 as well and I ovulated on day 16, which was slightly early for me. My doc believed me and just went by that.
