We got an forwarded email inquiring about when we will move out of our house and the new buyer can move in.
We have a tentative closing date on the 12th. Their lender hasn't finalized their loan yet. If this goes through and if the weather holds, we are going to do the big move on the 13th.
Here is where I am annoyed. The contract states we have 2 weeks after closing to move out. The buyer also wants to us to have the carpets cleaned before they move in and leave the poker table. (No to both). I guess I am just tired of bending over backwards for them when they clearly aren't prepared to move in a timely manner.
We will be out of the house well before the contract, but I am not digging their demands or requests. The email stated that he is very important in his job and needs notice on when to take off from work. It just rubbed me the wrong way.
Re: Would you be annoyed or am I being picky?
I'd be annoyed, especially after the other stuff that went down.
I'd say that you will for sure be out two weeks after closing. It could be sooner, but you aren't ready to commit to that right now.
Well, I don't know the background but I would not be annoyed...just say no. But as a buyer sometimes you just have to ask. When we moved into our house we asked the seller if we could move in early. They accommodated us, and we also accommodated them on several things they asked for. It was win/win for both of us.
But yeah, if there is a lot of background with these buyers I would be annoyed.
The last time my parents moved, they sold their house, packed-up and cleaned the place from top-to-bottom and moved into their new home with a dirty refrigerator and soiled rugs.
People are different.
Unless it benefits you, repeat what the contract states. You owe them nothng more. If they want more, they can pay for more.
It's not personal, it's business.
Background is that they couldn't get financing the first go round. Their realtor has to buy their house so they can get financing. They keep requesting more things in the house after the contract was already written up. We agreed to leave the swingset and our movie projection stuff.
They have yet to clear the financing for this FHA loan. We are supposed to close next week and we are still waiting.
Just say no. Reiterate that you have 2 weeks to move, and assure them that you will do so within the contract limits.
Did you agree to those other things after contract? If so....I think its a 'give an inch, take a mile' sort of issue.
Also, make sure that whatever lease you are signing is contingent on your house sale. A few years ago we were set to buy a house, when the house we were selling fell thru. The owners we were buying from rented (and had already moved) an apartment, rented a PackRat storage thing, and hired movers to do it all. The whole thing fell thru (our buyer wasn't cooperating) and those owners were out thousands of dollars (6 months of rent for both things). Then we had to take them to small claims to get our earnest money back.
So, don't do anything extra, and don't sign any contracts without contingencies.
