Severe cramping?

Ever since a few days after my BFP, I've been having these waves of really severe cramping.  It feels just like before AF but WAY stronger and almost makes me feel like puking.  I can hardly walk when it's happening.  It lasts about 10 minutes and then I feel better.  It's happened the most in the late evening but it's woken me from a dead sleep a few times as well.  It's been going on about a week now.  I called the OB and they advised me to drink more water.  That definitely improved it, but I'm still cramping!  I haven't had spotting of any kind.  Anyone else experience this??  I'm 4w5d today. TIA!

Re: Severe cramping?

  • I had severe cramping early on in my pregnancy, it was so bad I was in tears.  I would go home at lunch and cry.

I asked my doctor but she said I was fine unless I started bleeding but 3 days later I couldn't handle it and went to my after hours clinic.  The doctor there examined me and sent me for an emergency u/s to rule out ectopic.  Everything was great and it turned out that I was having severe IBS.

I have always had IBS but usually it was diarhea (TMI sorry) but all of a sudden I couldn't poop.  I had asked the doctor about it at my first appointment but she said she didn't think it was that (well it was).  I had to drink two big glasses of prune juice and it still bothered me for a few weeks but I feel back to normal now.

I read that symptoms can change week to week so I'm hoping it doesn't come back.

    I'm hoping it's nothing serious!

  • At 4 weeks, I too was having bad cramps to where it would wake me up in the middle of the night. The cramps would come late evening as well. My doctor said its nothing to worry about as long as theres no bleeding and something about your body is going through changes and your uterus is expanding. When I hit 5 weeks the cramping went away and I have it occasionally now.

With my second pregnancy I had similar pains and went into the ER--turned out I was fine and so was baby-

-BUT I would still go in if that type of pain (the type you are describing) happend this time areound because it could possibly be ectpic.--GL!

  • They did ask if it was on one side or another, but it's pretty generalized.  Told me to call back if it gets worse, is only on one side, or if I have any spotting.  None of that so far, but it's so miserable!  I can't sleep because of it :(  No fun...BUT....I'd do it the whole 9 months for a happy healthy baby! (here's hoping I don't have to ;)  )
