NBR: GIft for Aunt with Cancer

You ladies are my go-to source for most everything these days, so please forgive me for asking an NBR question.

My aunt had a double mastectomy this morning.   I was thinking about the Amazons, who according to legend had their breasts removed in order to better use their weapons.  Do you know off anyplace that sells any Amazon or warrior woman-type thing (I was thinking some sort of talisman or jewelry item) that I could give as a gift?  Does this even seem like a good idea?

I would be hesitant to relate a cancer related mastectomy to Amazon warriors.

My mother had breast cancer. Does your aunt live nearby? She will likely be feeling awful for the next several months if she is having chemo. A home cooked meal or an offer to clean her house might be more appropriate. Perhaps a gift certificate to get a pedicure or massage.

think it depends on the person, my exes' mom had a mastectomy and was very proud to have "beat" cancer, so i can see it being a very empowering thing.

     what about something like this?

or maybe a peice with a healing gem?

  • I am not real sure about the whole Amazon thing.

When I had cancer I loved when people just stopped by with something....dinner, magazines, flowers, candy, ANYTHING to show that they were thinking about me and that they cared.  Before I had cancer my cousin did.  I bought her a Willow Tree Angel of Healing.

  • Thanks for all of the perspectives. I like the healing gem idea. I wanted to stay away from something specifically cancer-related, because I remember a friend talking to me about take back the night protests and how she didn't want to be reminded about the fact that she was a victim of sexual violence. I don't know how my aunt feels about her diagnosis, but she's not the type to be defined by her illness. For a gift, I was hoping for something that would convey strength and healing.
