Success after IF

There's something to be said for waiting to potty train

My oldest boy potty trained a little after he turned three (after a failed attempt to train when he was two and a half).  We did one weekend of having him sit on the potty every 20 minutes or so and he caught on very quickly.

Everyone told me that potty training a girl was far easier than a boy and that it would happen far sooner as well.  Well, not with my daughter.  I tried maybe six months ago and it was a definite no go.  We tried again this weekend because she was more often than not coming and telling us when she needed a new diaper and refusing to sit down if her diaper was dirty.  I set the timer on my iPhone and each time it went off she had to sit on the potty.  By the end of the first day she didn't need the timer anymore and just went and sat on the potty when she needed to go.

I have taken a little grief that she was still in diapers at almost three years old but hey, I'd rather have her wear diapers longer but potty train in one day than spend weeks and months potty training.

I'm hoping things go as well three years from now when Sully needs to be potty trained.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • I agree, it happened so easily when SHE was ready.  I think in our case it was introduced too soon at daycare.  But one day she decided she didn't want to wear a diaper again, and quickly realized that peeing on herself wasn't fun.  It was a quick process, and she was just under 3 when this happened. :)

  • I love hearing this!  Because I just can't see starting PT anytime soon with Anna.   We have a long way to go before I think she will be ready.

  • I waited until Brady was 3 and he was potty trained in a day. We are going to do the same with Nolan as well. It was such a breeze with Brady! (Though I do think we got a little lucky with that).
