RP from BF: Birth control reduce milk supply?

I've been getting major migraines (most likely due to hormone levels) and my doc approved me to go back on birth control as soon as I want. I have it on hand, ready to go, but I want to make sure it's not going to funk with my already not super large supply. Any truth to my worry?

  • If it contains estrogen, then yes it can reduce your supply,
  • Interesting fact that migraines are a relative contraindication to combination OCPs as there is an increase risk of stroke with both though HA d/t menstrual cycle changes and tension HA may not have this additional stroke risk.  (I have had a few migraines and had an atypical migraine during pregnancy and I don't know whether this will stop me after BFing, but it's worth noting the risk.)

I would avoid estrogen while BFing exclusively because there is a theory that it will reduce supply though studies do not really bear this out.
