Still in the infant carrier at 5 months. Are you referring to a regular bouncy seat? I don't think it sounds very safe to have on an elevated surface. Even on the floor, I have to make sure that LO is securely strapped in now that he is moving around more. I would be way too nervous with him in anything on a counter-top.

Don't know what a counter-top bouncer is but it sounds very unsafe! We just switched dd to a convertable seat, she was very close to the height limit. She's onl 13lbs but 27 inches, she was 5 months when we switched.
I switched DD at around 6 months. She was sitting up on her own at 5 months. So when she could sit in the seat of that grocery cart I switched her. She also weighed about 15 pounds.
For my DS I will probably do the same thing.... Just depends on how grocery shopping is easiest with two.
We're shopping for a convertible seat right now because DS is at least 27 inches and over 18 lbs (haven't had him weighed or measured in a few weeks). We have the Graco SnugRide 35 so he can still stay in it for a while but lugging him around is getting quite tiring! The only benefit to keeping him in the bucket still is for when he falls asleep in the car.

Re: What age or weight?
We're waiting until she can reliably sit on her own, so probably between 7 and 8 months.
I don't know what a counter top bouncer thing is, but something about a thing that bounces on an elevated surface makes me cringe.

We switched DS around 7 months because my sister needed the bucket for her baby. And it was getting heavy lugging him around in it!
With DD it depends on when DS outgrows his carseat RF. I'm going to try to keep DD in the bucket as long as possible so DS can stay RF.
