Pregnant after IF

Just curious....anyone have a girl that started as a blastocyst?

I don't think I really care what we are having....but I am just curious....

We did IVF and ended up transferring a blastocyst.  Then of course googled blastocyst and gender a million times.  All the studies I found seemed like a "slight" more chance for a boy up to some saying 60%.  But when I look at peoples bios, etc. on other sites it looks like blastocyst is at least 95% boys.  Just curious is anyone had a blastocyst transfer and ended up with a girl.

Our RE said he still thinks it is around 50/50 in his practice.

Thanks!

You made me curious too, since I did a 3dt. I found this study which certainly seems to back up the claim that blastocyst transfer has a much higher incidence of being male. Page 2 is particularly interesting.

I think I found a paper that states that they found the same thing-- more boys with blast transfer, but those that were done with ICSI helps to skew the ratio in the other direction (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19731005). I don't put a lot of cred in some of these studies as they don't do a very large sample size or look across multiple locations. But it is interesting to contemplate and wonder about :)

There was someone a month or more ago that linked to an article that looked at the IVF gender ratio in Australia.  I don't remember the exact numbers but apparently live births in Australia are more than 50% boys.  With regular IVF, they saw about the same rate of boys.  With IVF with ICSI, they saw more than 50% girls.  According to that study, IVF didn't skew the gender ratio unless ICSI was involved.  Even then, though, it was something like 50 or 51% girls with ICSI.

They didn't break down the live births by types of embryo (blast or pre-blast) transferred.

I would buy that IVF with ICSI has a slightly higher girl percentage because X-chromosome sperm are larger than Y-chromosome sperm, and since the embryologist is choosing the individual sperm to inject in the egg, they may choose a larger one since it might be easier to determine that it is shaped correctly?

Wow very interesting study. I had heard this too and mentioned it to my RN at my RE's office and she seemed surprised and said they see a lot of girl IVF births and had not heard this. It makes sense when you read the study though. Thanks for posting.
