Pregnant after 35

40+ ladies - Tell me your success stories!

Hi ladies,

I'm 40 and have been TTC for 10 months.  I got pg naturally once but m/c early. After that, I found out I had a uterine septum and blockage, and both have since been fixed.  Last month I did Clomid and this month I did Clomid and am hopeful for a BFP this month.  I just came from my Dr appt, and feel a bit overwhelmed.  After this month, the plan is to move on to IUI with injectibles, then IVF.  I feel like this tidal wave is coming at me - am I really ready to take all these drugs?   I don't even like taking the Clomid - I just wonder if we'd just kept trying naturally if that would've been better (I O on my own).  I am doing what the Doc says, and he is tops in the field, but it's so much pressure when you're 40+.  You feel like you "have" to move onto intervention.  How about you?  Did you have help, and if so, what did you do?  TIA.

  • Numerous IVFs, and finally IVF with donor eggs.  I wish we had moved forward with donor eggs several procedures ago, as we would have a lot more money right now.

  • I am a "graduate" of this board, but I'm going to chime in.  I got pregnant the first month of trying at 39, but unfortunately, that ended in miscarriage.  We tried for 2 more months, but as you mentioned, I turned 40 and felt like I had to expedite the process "just in case."  I had all of the preliminary testing done and everything came out great...DH's SA was a little wonky with low morph.  We decided to proceed with IUI...all 3 failed.   Literally THE DAY we were going to sign our IVF paperwork, I thought....let me test because there is still no sign of AF.  The result of that is in my siggy.

There is definitely pressure to be actively doing something when you're approaching 40.  As the RE told me, there is just no way of knowing how easily one will be able to conceive when age is a factor.  Perhaps my story isn't the norm, but there are also women on the Parenting Over 35 board who had successful pregnancies without intervention after 40.  Good luck!

This is so true and so scary because you have no idea if you are wasting precious time trying naturally.

When DH &I decided to try for #2 at age 40, i immediately went online and ordered the CBEFM and we got really lucky using it.  I think anyone trying naturally at that age should be using some sort of help - - temping, OPKS, CBEFM or something.

Very best of luck to you.  I hope you find you have no trouble at all TTC.  GL!

  • Got pregnant TTC for 6 months at 35, gave birth at 36.  Took us 2 years to get pregnant with #2..... We had one failed IUI and then I had residual cysts, was told to take a cycle off of any procedures and got pregnant naturally the next month at age 38, gave birth at 39.  I am now pregnant with LO #3 at 40 naturally after TTC 6 months. I also know a pregnant  43 year old who had numerous miscarriages and this is her first pregnancy...naturally.  Another friend, age 40 went through failed IUI and IVF and got pregant naturally.  It's hard because the clock is ticking, but I know so many people now that have conceived naturally after intervention has failed.  Good Luck to you!  I find that for most, including myself, the more stressed and worried about it we get, the less likely it is to happen.
