I love seeing midwestern/eastern'ers in CA in December ; )

Ah, so cute. I love seeing people from cold climates in California in December, it is truly so cute. Everyone that lives here is dying to break out our "winter" wear that we got for Christmas, despite it being 75 degrees. So all the natives are in scarves and UGG boots, while the tourists are in shorts and sandals (the white legs are a dead give away...) and SO happy to be wearing summer clothes in December.

I was on my way to a popular southern California mall (it's also a tourist destination) and saw a bunch of midwesterners/eastern folks walk (another give away, we don't walk in LA, lol) to the mall.

When I worked at Disneyland, I'd see a lot of mid/east coast tourists due to people coming out for the Rose Bowl and Rose Parade. Y'all are in such great moods to be among palm trees and sun! Reminds me why I enjoy living here.

Carry on.

  • It was 27 degrees when I came into work this morning. Dang straight I'd be in shorts and tank tops if I were somewhere that it was 70 degrees! And I'm totally jealous that you get that kind of weather in December :)

  • LOL...totally get it.  I live on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina and we have a lot of a Canadians come for the winter.  I was on the beach the other day in uggs, sweatpants a longsleeve t-shirt and scarf, they were literally in bathing suits in the water.  65 degrees to me is a chilly day, to them coming from 20's and teens, 65 degrees is hot!!!!  Happy Winter and enjoy your Uggs.

  • That's funny :)  I was one of those people in San Fran a few weeks ago.  It was 4 degrees when I left home (MN), and it was around 60 in the places I was visiting.  I was in a t-shirt and everyone in the city had one winter coats and boots and scarves!  We've had a pretty mild winter here this year, but 60 and sunny and palm trees was heavenly to me!

  • And vise versa! Smile Seeing a southerner up here in winter all bundled up while we walk around in just a sweatshirt because we're having a 35 degree heat wave is hilarious, too.

I've been to CA in December once, over Christmas, and it actually snowed!  The whole town shut down for 2" of snow and literally every yard in the neighborhood had people out trying to make a snowman.  It was hilarious.

This cracks me up as well. People wear shorts around here the first time we hit 40 in spring!

  • Us midwesterners think it is equally cute to see Californians and Floridians in boots and coats when it's 75 out.  We went to the Panthers game in Fl a couple weeks ago and I was giggling at a few girls wearing boots there.  I didn't even bother to change out of flip flops and my feet were NOT cold.  I always get a kick out of the people at Disney that are bundled up (including wearing a furry hood) on a 40 degree night in Orlando while we're kicking around in a couple layers and a hoodie.  When it hits 40 degrees here in March, that means it's time to go to the park to play.

OMG this is so true - yesterday, the sun was out and it was 30 something and I was so thrilled to go get my mail in my light sweater that I had on.  It was in the low 40's the other day and I didn't even put my coat on.  Come spring when it is 50 degrees, I will see so many people out and about in shorts!!!

  • In NorCal, it's not quite 75, but more like highs in the 50's. Even so, my cousins just moved here from Michigan and are in shorts and t-shirts while we're all bundled in winter coats and layers with our thermostats up to 70. So funny.

  • OMG, you can spot a tourist year around. Starting with the bright white legs to the clothes that they must think we wear here (hawaiian shirts anyone?). It is shorts weather today so I will give them a little bit of a pass.

When did you work at Disneyland? I was there for nine too-long years. I got pretty good at guessing where people were from based on their tourist gear!

  • I'm in the inland empire. To the other poster- I worked there 1991-1996 during HS and college. I was DONE when I left! Fun times when you are young, and I still have friends from there. And we do a Superbowl party reunion every year at an old co-workers house.
