High-Risk Pregnancy

gbs

Has anyone had Group B Strep in their previous pregnancies ? If so what Normally happens when you go into labor ? All they told me is that I would be getting Antibotic's during labor and I've heard that they have to watch the baby closely the first few days.I'm 37 weeks now and she also said that i'm 3 cm 50 % effaced -1/-2 station..

Re: gbs

  • They give you an IV of antibiotics.  How far you are into labor depends on how fast they let it get administered.  My labor with DS1 was 12 hours so it took 4 hours to get it.  He was early so I never had the test.  I got the meds just in case.  He was in the NICU because of being early, but I don't think they need to do anything else once the baby is born.

  • You should go to l&d as soon as your water breaks (don't continue to labor at home if that was your plan) b/c they'll want to start antibiotics right away. You'll get another dose every 4 hours until you give birth. That's about it. It's common.
