Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Baby Signing

If you are signing with your baby, what words are you using regularly?

Do you have any good links that demonstrate how to do the signs?

Re: Baby Signing

That site has a video dictionary plus a handy iPhone app (a few $).

Signs we use daily: mommy, daddy, I love you, milk, up, all done.

Signs I use often but sometimes forget to use: water, bath, poop, more, eat, grandma, dog.

  • I started to do this with DD but I don't know how much she's actually picking up, but I just started.  We're using very basic words like "daddy," "mommy," "milk," and "diaper."

I went to the American Sign Language Pro website and they have videos.
https://www.aslpro.com/cgi-bin/aslpro/aslpro.cgi  (if the link doesn't work go to ASLPro.com and there's a link there for baby dictionary)

If not you can always google baby sign language and there some pretty good resources including a PDF sign chart through https://www.babysignlanguage.com/

    good luck!

  • I just do "all done" and "more" in the context of food. Occasionally, I think she does all done. Maybe. :)

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929

  • I just got the baby sign time DVDs for christmas, I just wanted the started kit because I want to see how much we actually stick to it and use it. You can get them at signtime.com and they are very highly rated.

It says to only start with 3-5 words so we are trying drink, eat, milk, mom, and dad.

  • We do milk, more, all done, help, please and ball.  She just started signing ball, so I'll add a few more (dog, cow, cat, play. . . ).  I have this set of flash cards that are really nice.  They have a person demonstrating the sign on one side and a picture of whatever is being signed on the other side.  My DD loves the pictures, so when she looks at those, I do the signs and then I try to do the signs as much as possible throughout the day.  (The set also includes a CD, a book with signs and a book to go with the CD that tells how to sign the songs).
  • Is it too late for me to start?  My LO will be 9 months on the 8th of Jan.  I wouldn't mind doing milk, all done, more, & food.

I don't have any evidence to back it, but I believe that it's never too late to learn a new language.  How many moms and dads are learning some form of sign language for the first time so that they can teach their LO?  I say go for it!  Also, from what I've read on similar posts it seems like the average age for LO to sign back to you is 8 months.  Good luck!
