Pregnant after 35

hi I'm new!

I'm 37, just discovered that we are pg and I am VERY scared! I posted on the high-risk pg board because I thought that my age combined with my weight (no need to talk numbers but let's just say that it will be hard for people to tell I'm pg!) made me high-risk. Apparently not, and now I hope I didn't offend anyone on that board. I haven't even seen the doctor yet as I'm waiting for some information about health insurance but I'm pretty sure I'm pregnant ... at least I am really, really hoping so. Two tests and a couple of weeks of mild nausea are just about enough to convince me but I'll be glad when I can find out for sure-sure. So I'm just saying hi, looking to connect with others in similar pg situations and not entirely sure how to start (clearly) ... but I'm happy to meet you all and so so very happy to posting here on the bump because it means our dreams are coming true!

Re: hi I'm new!

  • Congrats! I've just come over here as well.  I have a "high-risk" ob because I have a thyroid auto-immune disorder, but I'd still rather be posting over here.  There are lots of great women over here, many of whom I know from TTC+35.
    me - 41 (dx: DOR); DH - 53 (no problems); 7/18/09 - married!; 8/4/09 - BFP on first (real)try; 9/14/09 - missed m/c; 9/15/09 - d&c; 11/09 - 3/10 - 4 natural cycles = BFN; 4/10 - dx hyperthyroidism caused by Graves' disease; 6/10 - thyroidectomy; 7/10 - 12/10 - 1 natural and 5 medicated IUI cycles = BFN; 1/11 - new RE; dx low ovarian reserve (AMH .42; 1/26/11 -- BFP (ectopic) from IUI #6; methotrexate 2/10/11; 6/2/11 - IVF #1 = BFN; 9/12/11 - prescreening for DE; 9/15/11 - IUI #7 (unmedicated)= BFN; 11/8 - begin DE cycle (shared risk program); 12/5 - ER (5 eggs/4 mature/3 fertilized/2 left by day 5) 12/10 - ET of one 1BB blast (expanded, "fair" quality), none to freeze; 12/22 - totally shocked by +hpt; beta #1 = 413; #2 = 3952 2/14 - CVS reveals a healthy baby girl! EDD: 8/27/12 DD born 8/31/12, 10 lbs 10 oz and perfect in every way.

  • Welcome and congrats! I can't speak about the weight, but age alone(at least being only 37) doesn't make you high risk.

    Good luck!

  • I am considered high risk because of my age 41 and one previous early m/c  at the start of this year.. but my Oby just scheduled me for my next apointment in 3 weeks instead of the 2 weeks I should be having... so I guess he doesn't think I am THAT high risk Cool....and I am an elderly, petite with a big baby on the way planning/hoping for a drug free birthSurprise

I got paroled to a 3 week return appointment for good behaviour since all of my results are coming back good on BP, glucose testing  ( failed both 1 hour and 3 hours and have to test 4 times a day now ..and they are peachy) baby is doing fine... more than fine he is HUGE lol and it's not because of GD my AC1 results were great .. but daddy is 6 foot and was a 9lb 10 oz'er ..eek !!

Every pregnancy has it's ups and downs...but there is no point in worrying about problems till they actually arise or you will just have a miserable time all round.

Enjoy it.. it's the craziest best and worst 9 months of your life.. there is nothing like it CoolCryingSurpriseEmbarrassedAngryTongue Tied

Congrats :)  And being labeled high risk isn't always a bad thing... it means you get more Ultraosunds usually ..so we get to see our babies more often  than most :) as you can see from my signature ... we've had 4 regular and 1 3D/4D we paid for...and we're only 30 weeks on Sunday... pretty sure I am getting another one at 34 or 36 weeks too.  Some ladies only ever get 2... so you can call me elderly or high risk or whatever you like... I got me a healthy big boy and lotsa pics  :)

  • Thank you all so much for the warm welcome! I'm looking forward the support and advice on here. Like I said, I still need to see a doctor but I'm waiting to clear up some insurance stuff ... I've been out of work for over a year and thus uninsured for all that time since health insurance is soooo expensive. But I think we may qualify for emergency pregnancy care with Medicaid. As I told DH though, if I have to have this baby in the bathtub at our house, that's what I'll do! We've waited too long.

I never joined or posted on the TTC board because I just didn't want to share my heartache with others. I'm a person who prefers to share the joy! So hopefully all is ok with baby and will continue to be ok.

    Thanks again!

  • Welcome and congratulations! Nope age and weight alone don't make a pregnancy high risk.

  • You could go to Planned Parenthood to get a test if you don't have insurance yet.  They have all sorts of health services for women outside of the stigma associated with them.  I used to go there for check ups before I had insurance.
