Question if your H has had a vasectomy...

How long after the procedure did you wait to have sex again?  His recovery has gone just fine.  He is just under the two week mark and definitely ready to go.  Do you know if anything was different for him?  I think I'm more nervous than he is.  Stick out tongue

I wonder if we'll be in the middle of things and all of a sudden something will feel different for him and the moment will be killed.  I mean, not that big a deal, just wondering if you had any experience or wisdom to share.

(I realize we need to use backup until he has a couple "clean" follow-ups...and we actually have to avoid the next few days anyway since we don't do the deed during my fertile window)

Re: Question if your H has had a vasectomy...

  • Our situation is a tad unusual (he had to have it done twice) but the first time we just did the two week wait. We were extra cautious until he was clear.

  • Ha!  We didn't use backup during that window.  DH works shift work and had it done on day #2 of his 4 days off, then worked 4 and I think things resumed to normal after that.  So, I think he took 8 days off.  I may not remember right...  maybe it was 2 weeks.
  • I don't even remember how long we waited. He wasn't very good about resting the first day or two after the procedure so his pain lasted longer than usual, so we may have gone longer than two weeks. Once we started again, there was really no difference.

Totally lurking from P35+....are you serious?!?!? DH did too. I've not met/talked to many people that had to do it twice. We only knew about it (even after several all clears) that it didn't work when I got the BFP with S. Recannalization, I think the doctor called it. DH had it redone when I was PG....and I'm still beyond extra cautious. And planning on getting Essure, because the IUD has failed while in place with us.

I'm going to go ahead and NOT show this one to DH.  Stick out tongue  He'd freak!  I know it happens and there is anecdotal evidence out there...but not the norm.  I honestly think and feel that if we wound up with another baby, after the vasectomy and being super careful, that he/she was most definitely coming to us one way or another.  I am the result of that with my parents--not after a snip, but definitely careful birth control.  Ha ha!

Anyway, his doc recommended getting a sample tested every 6-12 months until I hit menopause for exactly this reason.

Yeah, I wouldn't show him either. I still chart because I think I'd have to be committed if we had another oops. You should have heard dh's brother when when told him....my bfp came one month before he got his snip, from the same doctor. I still think we should have went to another doctor...something about a doctor named Smilie!!
