Can E-6 get W.I.C.?

We live at Fort Lewis Wa. my husband is an E-6, we were hoping I could rely on my milk supply to feed the baby because formula is so spendy but it seems Im drying up. My question is---

Does an E-6 with 2 kids qualify for WIC in Washington state?

Re: Can E-6 get W.I.C.?

  • I would call the WIC office directly. I believe I had heard once E5 was the cut off in most states.

  • Can you see a lactation specialist and maybe she can suggest some ways to boost your supply.

  • You are going to have to call them to apply.  Usually they can give you a quick answer with a couple questions over the phone.  If you don't work I'm thinking you should qualify, but if you do then probably not.

E-6 2012 base pay depends on the years of service, so you'll have to look that up to plug it into the link I posted above.

  • We are E5, have 1 child, and I am not working -- and they said that because my husband is currently deployed, I was not eligible. They do take inconsideration the separations pay -- so we aren't eligible.

  • My hubby is E-5, we have one kid, I don?t work and we didnt get it. They said we were about $100 over the limit.

They were really rude and said we should just get a second kid and we will be eligible.

  • yah WIC is strictly income based -- every time I have called with a question, they are super friendly over the phone so i would def call if you have questions.

I don't believe that God ever tells us "no". he has three options. Yes, not right now, or I have something better in mind. We just have to wait & see. BabyFetus Ticker
  • Use generic formula.

Formula is THE MOST REGULATED product in America.  And in many cases, the manufacturer for the Name Brand is also making the Generic Brands.

The ONLY issue may be the flavorings uses, but unless your child has allergies/sensitivities, these things should not matter.  You just try another brand.

We ALWAYS used Generic.  Not because we could not afford the Name Brand, but because we knew the regulations/manufacturing issues of formula and were just aghast at the difference in costs to buy for something that costs pretty much the same to make (except for special formulas).   The mark-up is pretty much theft.

  • All "Pay" counts, but "Allowances" don't. So if you get any special pays then that can increase your income past WIC allowances, but anything on your LES that says "allowance" doesn't count. I'd call and ask - worst they can say is "no."

As for formula - Costco brand is the cheapest I've found, and my kids do great on it. Some of the others (Exchange brand, for instance), cause them to spit up more because of what they use to flavor it or something. Doesn't seem to dissolve as well. But I haven't seen any difference between using Enfamil and the Costco brand or Target brands. That can save you bundles right there.

  • I am a single E-4 and i was turned down for WIC. they will look at your base pay, your BAS, and how many people live in your household.

  • I think it depends on the circumstances. Surely if you are a stay at home mom and he is the only source of income for the house you would qualify. But I would just call your local office to see.
  • My dh is an E-7 and I currently get WIC and my 5 year old qualifies and so will this new baby. It all depends on the amount of people in your household and base pay.
