Elective U/S to find out sex?

How many of you have gotten an elective U/S to find out the sex? I really want to know, but I am debating on if I need to find out at 16 weeks or can I wait until 19/20 weeks!

Re: Elective U/S to find out sex?

  • We did it on Friday at 16 weeks. It was amazing and I would recommend it to anyone! The lady told us she was 100% sure it was a girl and that since we had a room full of people with us she would not have announced the sex if she wasn't sure. For me personally, it was hard enough having to wait until 16 weeks and I am so glad we did it!

  • We're doing the elective u/s we had to wait an additional three weeks through our drs office and 16 weeks is the half way point between our birthdays so we thought it be a great gift

  • I am not. I go in 2 weeks and I just have some patience that I wasn't expecting to have. Because of the holidays and stuff it has been pretty easy.

  • I am going to wait until the 19/20 week mark.  Personally, 3-4 weeks isn't going to change the sex and as much as I would love to see the LO again, I would rather have the u/s covered by my insurance.

  • I'm considering it but I think I will just wait.  My parents are going to be out of the country when I'm 20 weeks and my Dr.'s office refuses to even guess before 20 weeks.  I want everyone to find out at the same time and can't keep a secret, so I will have to wait until I am 20 weeks, 4 days along to have my a/s.  That'll be mid February, but honestly (for me) it's kind of fun anticipating and not knowing.

  • I had an elective u/s done at 16 weeks (a few days ago) & my in-laws from out of state got to be there to see it.  My little stinker was being very difficult & was in a horrible position to determine the sex, so the tech had us come back the next day.

Anyway, the next day the baby was STILL in a horrible position lol, but the tech was able to give us a 98% positive guess of a baby GIRL! I think it was worth it to see the baby again! :)

  • I did it last week at 16 weeks because I wanted to give it to DH for the holidays. He was like, "Dear God! A girl? We will have to send her to a nunnery!" LMAO!
  • all of the elective places around here cost about 150 dollars and wont do it until after your doctor does... so I have no choice but to wait until 20 weeks... Jan 17th almost can't get here soon enough
  • I'm doing one this week, I mainly wanted to do it because I am visiting my family in another state and it will be the only opportunity for them to see the baby on u/s so I thought it was worth it, plus we can all find out together so I thought that would be really special.  If it weren't for that I could probably stand to wait until my a/s...it's costing us $65 so I would rather not spend that money, but it's not too bad either.  Hopefully the baby will cooperate!

  • We did. The only issue was that they said girl for the first 15 min and then later said boy. I left less than convinced but when we went back at watched the u/s ourselves I see boy earlier too. Our tech wasn't good at her job but I feel confident we are having a boy and it was worth it to find out early only so we could wrap a blue bib for Grandpa :)
  • I was going to get one at 16w until i talked to a few ladies at work who mentioned stories about the guess being wrong. I talked to my doctor and he said it was probably due to the fact of the experience of the techs in those places.

now....im sure there are good techs there, you just have to find them :)

  • We did. The earliest they would take us was 17 weeks. They make you wait so they can confirm the sex (they did several times during the 35 minute u/s). And the pictures they took make it really obvious.
