Office Party "Drinking"

I work in a small office, there's ten of us here.  My boss took us all out to a very classy Italian restaurant for our Christmas party.  This place is always packed with reservations only, so we all met at the bar in the restaurant while we waited.

I work with all guys and they love to drink... they also know that I'm pregnant and are all super thrilled and somewhat protective of me and the baby.  Obviously, all of the guys were drinking, but my boss had told the bartender that I was pregnant so the bartender whipped up this all juice, no alcohol, cocktail for me.

We ended up waiting an hour for our table and I have to say it was hilarious to see all of the dirty looks I was getting for standing at the bar drinking my juice.  Wide-eyed looks that started at my belly and worked their way up to my face... Looks of death and utter disgust.  Sure, I wanted to put them in their place, I'm a mommy now, I'd never do anything that I thought would hurt my baby.  But, instead, I laughed pretty hard about it.  Jokes on them. :)

  • That is pretty funny!

  • Haha yeah, people need to mind their own business.

Women drink a small amount while pregnant in Europe and other countries, they say a drink a day is fine there.

  • HAHA too funny!  Sometimes people just don't think before they make assumptions.  Glad you were able to laugh about it :)

  • It's cute that your boss is so protective.  My favorite mocktail has always been a club soda with a splash of cranberry with a lime.  I can't wait to get dirty looks when I order this and look more pregnant!

  • That's exactly how you should look at it! Jokes on them. People who assume only make an ass out of themselves to you. (Haha get.. ass-u-me)

That was very sweet of your boss to make sure you were included with an actual drink than just a seltzer or something. And if you remember this awesome "mocktail"  feel free to share. I want to try it tonight when I go to the holiday happy hour! lol

  • Hahaha, and that's what people get for assuming otherwise.

I got the sideways eye the other day when I poured myself some apple cider, my coworker only saw the bottle and assumed I was drinking some wine. She laughed at me, and was like wow are you okay to be drinking that. I'm looked at her surprised and thought, yeah apple cider is pretty tasty. We both laughed about it, and she didn't even see the label.

  • I get so annoyed at people making assumptions about me and being all judgy that I haven't developed a sense of humor about it yet.. At one point, the other day, I told someone who could not hide his utter disgust and kept gesturing towards me, "Hey, it's non-alcoholic, d!psh!t." I've never said anything like that before, so I blame the hormones, but it felt reeeeeaallly good. His face just went blank as if it hadn't occurred to him that non-alcoholic drinks existed.

  • It always boggles my mind why people insist on judging a pregnant woman like that. I once went to a restaurant when I was pregnant with DS and we had to wait downstairs in the bar for our table. Everyone looked at me like I was a total freak. I'm pregnant, not dead. And if I was to have a glass of wine in the bar, so what? Not your problem. America is hilarious in this way.

  • Awesome!  I had a work party today and our new president, who took us out, got us all wine for a toast.  I had less than half a glass, but enjoyed every drop!  No one even looked twice, which was awesome.

  • I keep seeing this on the Bump, but it just isn't true! A drink a day isn't fine in Europe while you're pregnant. I have never, ever heard this here. But I can only speak for Germany.

That being said, I had a few sips of beer last week, and it was delish. Wink
