At my 36 week exam I had a cervical exam at which my midwife pronounced me 50% effaced but closed up tight. She prescribed EPO to help my cervix ripen.
Today I had another exam and I am still 50% effaced. She said I was half a centimeter dilated, but I think she was just throwing me a bone to make me feel better.
But none of that matters. I got some great news today. I'm no longer on the clock due to my GD. After the medical director of the birth center reviewed the growth ultrasound I did last week, which showed that baby was 23rd percentile, and my blood draw records showing my GD is diet controlled, the word from on high is that they are going to let me carry past my due date. Yay!
I had really been sweating the idea of baby not coming on time and getting bumped from the birth center over to the hospital for an induction. I'm so glad that he is going to be allowed to come in his own sweet time.
Re: From 36w4d to 38w4d - no changes on internal but good GD news
I got really lucky - I had started what was essentially a GD diet months before I failed my glucose test. I've been prone to hypoglycemia since my teenage years, so when my blood sugar started going haywire first tri, I assumed that my hypoglycemia had just gotten worse. I started eating 6 - 8 times a day, pumped up the protein and cut out the carbs.
Also, if I was still with my large hospital affiliated OB, I'd be scheduled for an induction already, regardless of what my growth scan showed. Making the move over to the birth center in second tri has given me a lot more flexibility.
