how long is the wait at your pedi?

We go to a pediatrician associated with CHKD, we really like the doctors there and like the fact that they are associated with CHKD, however every single time we go it takes forever.  Today we took our 10 month old DD in for a sick appointment. The appointment was at 1:45. We didn't go back until around 2:25 or so, didn't see the doctor until a little after 3. Does it take that long every where?

It doesn't matter which doctor we see, they are always really backed up. We usually try to make our well visits as early as possible to avoid this.

Re: how long is the wait at your pedi?

  • If we are there at the end of the day (like 3:30 or 4:00), then we often will have a wait. It's usually 15 minutes. Once in the room, and after the nurse has seen us, it's often up to 10 minutes. If it's more than that, they come and tell us.

ETA: A recent pedi visit had the nurse pull a portion of the paper from the roll and had both kids drawing on it to pass the time. Worked like a charm, and the pedi got to see some developmental milestones. I now bring crayons with me to the pedi office.

  • We have a GP.  He is usually on time +/- 15 minutes.
promised myself I'd retire when I turned gold, and yet here I am
  • We don't have a pedi, we all see the same family doctor (including our 5 year old). But we're usually called back into the room within 10 minutes of the appointment time.

  • I usually call to find out how far behind they are, if it's near 30 minutes, I let them know that I will be there but later since I don't want to sit in the waiting room for that long, they are pretty understanding. This was after a day waiting for over 30 minutes in the waiting room and longer than that once I got in to the room. I was ticked.
  • Our pedi has a pretty small practice and we usually only have to wait about 10 min., sometimes less. DS2 goes to a dermatologist @ Texas Children's Hospital in the med center and we usually only have to wait 10 or 15 min. there, too.

  • Mine are really good to get you in. I always make well check for 1:30, right after lunch so I don't have to wait on anyone.
  • It depends. I usually schedule the well checks for right after lunch. Sick appts take longer. There have been times where I have waited as little as 15 min. and as long as an hour in the waiting room.

I guess it depends on how many sick kids are in the waiting room.

  • Well checks are less than 5-10 minutes.  I've waited over an hour (total in the waiting room and in the back) at sick appointments before.  Our pedi is very sought after and WONDERFUL so I know they're squishing us in when we're going in for a sick appt.  He doesn't do a lot of sick appointments because he's just too busy and they have a new doctor who takes the "routine" ones.  We always see him with DS because of his FTT and if it's something more serious, but the newer doctor is very sweet and the girls love her for little things like ear infections and fevers and such.  She always gets us back within 10-15 minutes even for sick appointments...
  • we have waited 1-1 1/2 hours to be seen already. Yes it pi$$es me off, but our pedi gives you as much time as you need, he never looks at his watch and doesn't rush you through an appt b/c he is running behind.

  • usually 10-15 mins of the appointment time.  They are really good about it, I have never waited more than 15 minutes.

  • Man! I feel like I should change now. I wish our wait was only 15 minutes each time. I think the office must double book some times or hope that people cancel. There is 4 or 5 doctors in the practice so it's not like there is only 1 doctor there taking care of everything.
  • Regardless of sick or well visit we are called back within 5 minutes. Then the Dr comes in usually 1-2 minutes after the nurse leaves. The longest we have ever waited was 15 minutes.
