Want good camera to capture kid moments

Hi,

 I am in the market for a new camera but there are so many out there. Any suggestions on good cameras that take great pictures of kids. I don't want to spend more than $1000 but definitely more than my little pocket-size digital camera that I have used all these years before kids.

You can get a really nice package deal on a DSLR for $1000 (or slightly under).  I would ask on the photography board.

Are you looking for a high end point and shoot or a DSLR? I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Canon G10. I think they're up to a G11 or G12 now. It's a "prosumer" category camera, in that it has a lot of advanced features of  DSLR, but still technically a point and shoot. And it's not as big as a DSLR, so I can still put it in a larger pocket. We use the 'kids and pets' feature all.the.time to get pictures of the kids in action.

I'm not a brand loyal person, but I will never stray from Canon again.

OMG - this is exactly what I would type out. I looooooove my G10. The quality is great, but it's still easy enough for my DH to use.
