Suggestions please

My girls are 3mths & they eat every 3 hrs. They take their last bottle around 9-9:30 & sleep from about 10-6. It seems like lately they are getting irritable before this time so it's making me think they want to go to bed earlier.

My question is how do I move their bed time to lets say 8 without having to get up earlier for them eating every 3 hrs. Im worried that if they take their last bottle at 6 they will be up in the middle of the night since their calorie intake will be less.

Also, when do they start to take "naps"? Most of the time they will eat & stay awake about an hr & then go back to sleep.

Im terrified of changing anything w/ their schedule for fear of them no longer STTN. Am I being too strict on their schedule? Should I let them eat & when they show signs of being hungry feed them then?

  • I would put them to bed after their 6, 6:30 bottle and then top them off before bed around 9:30 or 10 with a dreamfeed. I hung on to the dreamfeed for way too long but it was far more preferable for me to feed them before I went to bed for the night and have them sleeping instead of eating at 2:30am than skip that feeding and be up in the middle of the night.

  • We have 4 month old twins and we do a feed around 7 or 8 and they stay up or nod off depending on the night.  Then we do one more feeding around 11 and they sleep 7:30, it works for us.  I was worried about a schedule too and found I was driving myself crazy!  I'm trying to chill out and go with this for now.  When they get older we will worry about an earlier bedtime.  I think it's more important for me to sleep (and be happy) and for them to get that last feed to gain weight.

I was going to suggest this too.  Or maybe try moving it back 15 minutes each night until you are at 8.

  • 3 months is about the time we went to a 6 pm bedtime (after bottle) too.  The babies did get up in the early morning for another feed (around 3 am) for a couple of weeks but then right at 4 months they started sleeping all the way until 6 am.  It wasn't awesome for us to have to get up again but it really was the best thing for the babies.  Our naps became more solid around that time too.  Just try to stick to a routine and things should fall into place soon....good luck!
