Random NPR question re: aprons.

Do you wear an apron around the house? I know it sounds totally silly, but I've developed this total lust for cute aprons and want one for every day of the week, LOL. I've spend the last week or so looking at various aprons online and have found a few really cute apron patterns that I want to try to sew for myself.

As dorky as it is, I just think they're so charming! Anyone else?

Re: Random NPR question re: aprons.

  • I have a super cute one from Anthropolgie, but I only wear it when cooking/baking a lot (therefore, rarely)

  • I only wear them when I have TON of cooking to do (Thanksgiving, xmas or a dinner party) and am dressed nicely.

A little dorky but that why we <3 you C!

  • Oh, I'd love to have an apron obsession!  How fun!  I never wear them, even when baking though.

I'd love to get inside your head.  I think I need to learn how and why people wear aprons.  I even got my toddler an apron because I love the "idea" of the Betty Crocker housewife, cooking and baking...

  • Dh's grandma got me one for Christmas with my name on it.  It's cute.  But I really only wear it for holiday baking and things like that.  I think it looks authentic.

  • I don't really have an obsession. I have made well over 40 aprons.. they are fun and simple. The women in my area LOVE them.

  • How about this-I think they're adorable and keep buying new ones, but I NEVER wear them!  Maybe once a year making christmas cookies, but that's it!

So, I have a completely non-functional apron lust.  I think it means I am conflicted-I yearn for the charm of the traditional, but refuse to succumb to it!

  • Ok, you inspired me, I went and put on an apron.  I'm baking anyway!  And I must admit, I look adorable.
  • Nope, you see, I'd have to actually bake or cook. My mom was a box cooker, meaning she never made anything that didn't come out of a box with quick directions. Thus, I never learned how to cook either. I'm never cooking for more than 10 minutes or so, so it doesn't require anything special.

  • I love aprons!  I used to have three but seem to be down to just one.  They're great for me b/c I'm a messy cook and I like to wear them when I'm doing housework too.  I do have one of those little half-aprons that DH's grandma embroidered for me that I don't wear, b/c it's just so pretty I don't want to mess it up.
  • Please post your patterns that you have found!  I'd love to make an apron, but with my limited sewing skills, I wouldn't even know where to start!
