Another gift question - Leapster Explorer?

So I need to finish up shopping for Christmas and Sam's birthday (12/26).  A relative got him a Leapster Explorer, and I wonder about games or cartridges or whatever.  The age range seems to be 4-9, but I wonder if our relatives (who are both teachers) know more about it and think a 2 year old would still like it.

Thoughts/recommendations/etc?  I have no understanding of any of these devices :)

    I don't know much about the Leapster Explorer, but we got Jacob a Leappad for Christmas and I think he's going to LOVE it.  To be honest, he can navigate around our ipad with ease, so I don't know if the 4-9 age range is more for the games or for the technology itself.

    For the Leappad, the games generally go from ages 4-6yo and then from 7-9yo, so obviously I just stuck with the 4-6yo games that cater to letters, numbers, coloring, opposites, etc.
