How long does it take from the moment you decide it's time to do IVF to the time you can start testing on a HPT? I know there are BCP involved in the beginning, then injections, then egg retrieval then embryo transfer??? Please bare with my ignorance, I know the basics of IVF but not the details.
TTC#1=Feb 2009: 50 mg Clomid+Ovidrel shot+Metformin+Dexamethasone+TI=BFP!

Re: Stupid IVF question.
We had a consult in mid October, per cycle testing late October and started BCP's and Lupron in mid November. Did ER/ET mid December and beta 12/23.
So depending on your protocol and required testing it could be slightly shorter then that.
Good luck!
I say "2-3 months" for your very 1st IVF (consults, waiting for cycle day blah blah, SHG, infectious disease testing, down reg w/lupe/bcp... then stim, ER, ET....)
But the following ones seem to be only a cycle or so apart.
(not a dumb question, esp when it's all new to you)

It really depends on your protocol. I wasn't on BCP, so I just had to decide what AF I wanted to start and I got moving.
For this pregnancy, our consult with our RE was in May and she said that I could cycle right away, if I wanted to. But we were going on vacation in June, so I decided to wait. But then I cycled in July and knew I was pregnant by the end of the month.
Totally depends like everyone said.
I was on BCPs for 2 months, but that was because we had to push mine back due to work.
So... essentially, wait until CD 1, start BCPs for 3 weeks, bleed, start stims on CD2 (my Re only started stims on Thursday, Friday or Monday, so you'd time BCP to end appropriately.)
I started stims on Oct 5, triggered Oct 17, retrieval on Oct 19 and transfer on Oct 24. I got a + blood test on Oct 29 and a positive pee test on Oct 31.
