3rd Trimester

2nd time moms.. What did you buy again or buy this time?

I am working on a list of what we are going to need to get...

So far I have bottles and some swaddle wraps...

I would love some input... Thanks!

Re: 2nd time moms.. What did you buy again or buy this time?

  • I bought some halo swaddles, new bottle nipples, a few new outfits (he will be born in about the same season as DS1 so I didn't need much), a new floor activity mat because DS1 spit up so much on the other one we just threw it away, new pacis and then I had to get a new boppy because my first one was used so much it was pretty flat.

  • Some "necessities" we bought again this time (aside from, of course a crib, dresser, etc) are:

    -Video baby monitor

-Cradle swing (my first two were not fond of swings, but my daycare provider swears by them so we're giving it a final shot)

-Fisher Price rock n play sleeper (bouncer/sleeper seat)

-Zip/button up one piece sleepers (I NEVER mess with 2 piece outfits when they're newborns) - purchased 10 in a lot off ebay for $30!

-Graco snugride car seat with stroller system (Walmart: $135 for both!)

  • swaddle blankets and receiving blankets that aren't pink from my daughter,

bottles, pacifiers, pacifier clip, lots of bibs and burp cloths

larger diaper bag for two babies' necessities

    more crib sheets

    baby book and photo album

    double stroller

coming home outfit ( I was fortunate enough to receive enough hand-me-downs to outfit this baby for a year so I only need to buy clothing I want to for special occassions)

  • We need a new swing.  My daughter was the 3rd baby to use the last swing we had and it started clicking and had a hairline crack in the plastic.  I threw it out.

This baby is a boy so we need clothing and "boy stuff".  It's sad because I have about 5 huge plastic totes of my daughter's clothes in storage.  Some outfits still have tags on them.  Sad  As much as I'd like to re-use the clothing, I really don't want to dress him in pink butterflies and flowers.  My FIL doesn't understand my theory and calls me wasteful.  ::sigh::

    New pacifiers.

    NB and size 1 diapers

    Sleep sacks

I'm pretty sure the bottles and nipples from my daughter's bottle days are still good....just need a wash.  I have look at them again to make sure though.

  • Here is what we bought this time.  I put a * next to the items that we bought only for this baby and didn't have with our first one.

    Cloth diapers *
Fisher Price Rock N Play *
    Bottle warmer
New bottles (I hated that our old ones had FIVE parts to wash)
    New pacis
    Swaddle blankets
    More baby hangers

I think that's about it.  We still need a double stroller but are going to hold off until after Christmas.

  • I haven't done much shopping yet, but I plan to do a lot after Christmas.  My first was a boy and this one is a girl.

    Here's my to buy list:

    1. new crib and mattress - DS is still in his crib and it converts to a toddler bed anyway
    2. crib sheets/blankets - DS is still using the old ones
    3. cloth diapers/ burp clothes - the old ones were ruined with use
    4. new clothes - most of the old stuff is not gender neutral
    5. receiving blankets/swaddlers/sleep sacks -  most of the old stuff is not gender neutral
    6. medela bottles - wore out the old ones, at least the pump still works
    7. regular stroller - old one is worn out
    8. carseat - DH wants a new one with a better handle and spare bases
    9. full size swing - the old one was a hand  me down that wasn't terribly safe

So, I'm only re-using the changing table, play pen, travel swing, jogging stroller,  boppy, bumbo, glider, breast pump, baby monitor, walker, bathtub, baby carriers, nursing cover...

You should replace the bottle nipples.

If you?ve kept your old bottles to wash, boil and prepare for this next baby, be aware that the nipples on the bottles have an expiration date. The nipples on a bottle should be replaced every few months, which means the nipples you used for your older child should have been replaced then and most certainly should be replaced now.  (babycenter.com)

I will be reusing my baby's bottle nipples. I nursed and he didn't use them all that much.  I'm not spending a ton on nipples that this one might not ever use. Not happening.

I bought a bigger diaper bag.  A few new clothes as they are six months apart which means seasons are exactly opposite. A few NB diapers and that is about it.

  • -new nipples (due to the fatigue of the plastics, dont need them breaking)

    - Gerber cloth diapers as burp cloths

    - new changing pad & cover

-few new outfits that arent boyish

    - wash clothes and towel

    - paci's

    - diaper bag (slightly bigger as i will now have 2)

    - drying rack and bottle brush (caving and just buying it this time..)
