Menstrual Cup Users....

Just wondering how often you find the need to empty your cup on heavier days?  I have the Diva Cup and just finished using it for my second cycle.  I remember reading in the directions that the entire monthly flow for a woman averages 1 oz and that is what the cup holds.  I must be extremely abnormal because for the first 2.5 days of my 6 day cycle I need to empty the cup about every 4 hours because it is FULL and I get leaking.  I have to wear momma-cloth as well as the cup for the first 3 days of my period ESPECIALLY overnight.  Just wondering if I'm the only one out there or if this is at all common.  or if I am maybe using the wrong brand of cup for my body.

Re: Menstrual Cup Users....

  • I don't have an answer to your question, but was going to add that I'm kinda scared to try the cup because of this. I have an IUD and if I don't change my pad every hour for the first day and a half, I get leaking....like major, people would think I was dying, leaking....So, really not sure the cup could handle my flow...
  • I empty every hour for the first two days.  You're not abnormal.  I also wear cloth pads and wake up a few times at night to empty.

I used the Diva for a while, but found the Lunette fits me better, but they hold the same amount, so I still change it just as often, but the holes are bigger so I don't have as much suction to cause leaks.

  • In the few cycles I've had between kids, I was changing up to every hour which I never had to do before.

  • I don't really need to empty mine often.  On the first 2 days of my cycle, I empty in the morning shower, and at night before bed, sometimes halfway through the day.

At the end of my cycle, I can go 24 hrs.

When I was using tampons, I would have to change every couple of hours or I would have leaking.  Even now, if I have to use a tampon for some reason, I have to change after a couple of hours.

  • I had to change it every 1-2 hours, and I wore back up as well. I had to do the same with super plus tampons.

  • The first day I can go 6 hours.  After that I can go 12 easily.  I don't think I have a super heavy period though.
