Babies: 6 - 9 Months

New world of scooting, sitting & climbing ..what to do, what to do..

My DD will be 8 months this Friday.. She is scooting around, sitting up on her own and even climbing up to stand on her own.  My question is how do I get my LO to nap (and sleep longer periods at night) when all she wants to do is explore her new world??  I follow her sleepy cues and put her down for a nap at the first sign of tiredness but she just plays or cries when I put her in her crib.  Anyone else dealing with is?

  • I'm back to nursing her to calm her down when just last week she would fall asleep on her own in 10 minutes.  I don't want to fall back into the habit of nursing her to sleep ... :(

  • Longer awake times so she is good and tired. Works for us. DD doesn't cry when we put her in her crib. So sometimes I will just let her play. She has fallen asleep hunched over with her head on the crib sides. I nurse her to sleep at night, so that hasn't changed any.

  • as we speak i'm watching DS on the video monitor sitting, standing and doing some form of yoga in his crib! he's supposed to be napping.......

oh and don't even get me started on the fireplace and christmas tree!!!

i usually just let him explore until he falls asleep...actually he just laid down...and now i think he may be asleep. haha oh nope...just sat up

i just leave him up there - if he's not screaming and just rolling around then i just leave him. except for the fact that we might be late for library song group today!!

i think it's just this phase!

    good luck momma!!

  • Do what you have to do to survive this stage. She'll tire herself out eventually.

  • If she's not upset and just exploring her new talents I'd let her tire herself out.  Or wait a little longer before you put her down so you know she's good and tired.  I think we are entering this stage as well.
