Homemade Laundry Detergent

I want to go this route. I've been talking with others who have top loaders and LOVE it. I am moving to a house where our space option is a front loader. Some people mention they have heard it can be used, and I've found a few liquid recipes. Can anyone offer suggestions or help?

Thanks!

Re: Homemade Laundry Detergent

  • I have an LG front loader and I used powdered DIY detergent without a single problem. I used the recipe from the Eco Friendly Family blog pretty much. I used grated up and then dried out Zote laundry soap instead of fells or ivory. I added some soap scents to it and it was good to go.

Powdered works much better than liquid. It stays better longer and is less mess. I never used powdered before but have used the EFF blog detergent for over a year very successfully.

  • I made a liquid one but next time I will just make a powdered one. With the liquid I have to shake it up because it separates daily. The price difference between homemade and store bought is amazing though. I had borax on hand already and the other two ingredients cost $6. All the stuff I bought will make 3 batches.

  • Thanks for the info! I'm going to let the big Kirkland bottle run out then will be making my own!

     Thanks again!
