Bakers: dark/semi-sweet/milk chocolate?

I am making those candy cane kiss cookies that someone here posted

https://www.ourbestbites.com/2010/11/candy-cane-kiss-cookies/

They call for dark chocolate chips.  I'm not madly keen on dark chocolate to begin with.  but all I have is semi-sweet anyway.  This is just my test batch (for a cookie exchange) so I'm not that pushed for today but in general is there a big taste difference between the different kinds of chocolates in baking?  Thank you!!

Re: Bakers: dark/semi-sweet/milk chocolate?

  • I don't put chocolate chips in mine at all. If I did, I would use semi-sweet because I am not a fan of dark chocolate at all, so I never buy those.  In the end, dark, semi-sweet, milk...it is not going to matter a lot in a cookie like this, imo because it is not the base flavor.

  • I use milk chocolate chips.  This may or may not be because I can eat a few out of the bag while I am baking..Wink
  • Semi sweet should be fine, I wouldn't do milk chocolate though.

On a side note...don't push the kisses into the cookie right away, they will melt.  Give the cookies a few minutes to slightly cool and then push the kisses in (I did a different version of these last night...trust me, I'm speaking from experience - I have little chocolate "pools" instead of kisses lol).

  • Thank you!  I will definitely not leave them out b/c my  main concern is that they won't be chocolaty enough lol.  Thanks for the tips!
