DD has a cold right now and it sucks. I'm also coming down with it, which is juuuust great. It's going to be a fun week.
Use saline nasal drops to break up the congestion, then suck out all the gunk with a bulb syringe. Babies can't blow their noses, so this is the only way to help clear them out. It's loads of fun, let me tell you.
I also keep a humidifier running in her room and her nighttime routine is now: Saline drops, bulb syringe, steam the crap out of the bathroom, quick shower or bath, bulb syringe again, dry off and get dressed in the steamy bathroom, nurse in her bedroom, bed. She's still too stuffy to nurse well or take the pacifier, but the steam and drops definitely help.
Bulb syringe! How could I forget the fun we had with that when D was 4 weeks old! I've been using some saline spray, but the syringe is the missing link on that whole process!
I've also thrown all of his dishwasher-safe toys in for a quick wash (we had a playdate here and I'm thinking that's the source of the sniffles). I'm not a germophobe, but the sniffles seem as good a time as any to do a little disinfecting.
Like the others have said...humidifier, saline spray (Little Noses is great) with the bulb syringe, and elevate the mattress. We have been dealing with the same thing at our house for the past week, and the first couple of days were rough at night because she was still so congested. We ended up putting her in the swing so that she was upright, and she slept great.

My 7.5 -month old son has the flu...again! for the third time!!
i do all of the above, and also rub baby vicks on the palm of his feet and just a bit on his nose while he is asleep.
although there is no medicine you can give an infant for cold & flu... a friend of mone from canada suggested a homeopathic remedy which she used for her son for a long time. it's called coryzalia
