Water on the Kidneys?

Hey Ladies, had a sono today, everything looks great, the little man is growing right on schedule! However, the Dr. did mention he saw a little extra water on his kidneys. He said it's probably nothing to worry about, and will most likely drain out after birth. Of course it makes me nervous! Anyone else experience this?

Re: Water on the Kidneys?

  • I have experienced exactly what you are saying.  It turns out that he just had to pee.... all the other u/s turned out fine and he no longer had water in his kidneys.... Just make sure that each u/s or sono that they check.... But the fluid should pass... :)

  • They found this with my little one, and I've been seeing a specialist to keep an eye on it.  The fluid has increased in the kidney, and the specialist I see says that basically the baby is peeing into pressure, so not everything gets out, and it usually clears itself up after birth.  If it doesn't get cleared out before your due date, they will just do an ultrasound on the baby about a month after it's born to see if it's anything else.  My doctor referred to it as hydronephrosis.
