Nicholas gets read to everynight before bed and if I'm home he gets read to at naptime too. Anyway we (or at least I ) read him up to 5 books at a time. They are short books so I don't mind, but sometimes I skip pages when I'm tired and just want him to go to sleep. I've also hidden books (the books we read before sleeptime are on the rocker) if they've been in the "lineup" for too long
Our current lineup is:
Llama Llama Holiday Drama. he calls it the "Mama Book" I skip a page or 2 here.
The Very Busy Spider aka "The Spider Book" I skip pages.
Dr Seuss ABC book
Hop on Pop aka "Hop Hop"
Elmo says GoodNight
I just retired "Mail Harry to the Moon" or "Moon book" as Nicholas calls it and Llama Llama Red pajama.
Re: if you read to your LO at bedtime and/or naps how many books do you read?
We usually read 3 or 4. Our line up is:
Goodnight Moon
5 Little Monkeys
I Love You Through and Through
Thank You God
Occassionally, if he asks, I will do Little Blue Truck too.
Hiding books - I totally do that with some I just can't take reading again for awhile.
I only read to her before bed and usually it's 4 books, varying depending on the current favorites. If it's a longer book like a Dr. Seuss I try to keep it to two and she always suckers me into a third.
I am thankful every day for my miracle after infertility.
And thrilled to be pregnant again after FET!
LIAngel--just saw your post before and you're welcome!! I hope you had fun with the exchange!
We usually read one or two books before bed. I have a large collection from when I taught Kindergarten so many of the books are longer. If we pick a longer book, then she gets one. I will often sort through the books and pull out seasonal books to somewhat limit the choices.
He usually gets 5 or 6. It's Daddy time and he only gets 60-90 minutes with him a day. If he's really tired it will be 3-4. We always end with either Guess How Much I Love You or On the Night You Were Born. He has books in his room and in the living room so I try to only read the living room books to him during the day and leave his room books for mostly before bed. I also go to the library so we have fresh stock. lol
If I do bedtime with Toodle (which I've only done once or twice since Boodle was born) I impose a 3 book maximum. DH will read to him until he falls asleep usually, at least 5. I'm not sure what the rotation is now but he's been requesting holiday books (Grinch, Night Before Christmas, a Christmas counting book). He went through a long "We're Going on a Bear Hunt" phase.
For Boodle I just read her one book, usually a Sandra Boynton. Lately it's been the Going to Bed Book (aka the gay cruise book).
DD is obsessed with books right now. Every second we're at home she's following us around with a book saying, "Read read." Some days it feels like between DH and I we read a thousand books.
For nap and bedtime, I usually read three board books. Longer story books I'll usually only read one or two (she's usually almost asleep at the end), and then I sing her one or two songs.
Her current favorite books are anything with the Pigeon (Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, etc.) and nursery rhymes. She also likes My Wonderful Christmas Tree, but only to flip back and forth between "owl picture" and "bear picture." I don't really get a chance to read the words. : )

One is random, whatever she's into
We always end with Pajama Time
We typically read three at night. So, each of the older kids get to pick one and then we pick one. There are some books that I now call "daddy books" meaning my kids know I won't read them and so they need to pick those only on nights when daddy is doing the reading. Those include any Dr. Seuss book (except Oh the Places You'll Go), Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and The Very Silly Mayor.
Speaking of skipping pages, one night I was listening to my husband read the kids Knuffle Bunny Too and he totally shortened a long list of names and I yelled from the other room that you're not allowed to skip parts of the books. So, of course, now if I try to do the same thing my kids call me out on it. It gets harder and harder to skip things as they get older.
Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12
Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck. Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.
