Overdue rant (re: pregnancy)

First, I apologize in advance to anyone who is not pregnant and wishes to be...I know it won't sound fair of me to complain.  I'm just looking for people who can commisserate.

Okay, so I am 3 days "overdue."  Cal was 3 days early and never in a million years did I imagine this one being overdue...always assumed s/he would be earlier than Cal.

I am so physically uncomfortable. I have on/off extreme pelvic pain - I guess it has to do with how the baby is positioned at any given time, because it's not constant.  But when it's there, it's BAD.  Last night was the worst.  Getting out of a seated position is excruciating.  Coughing is excrutiating.  Trying to pee or poop is excruciating.  Pain to the point that I'm worried it's going to feel even worse while I'm in labor, and I had a natural labor with Cal!  Lying down, I'm okay, and sometimes standing up is okay.  And, wouldn't you know, this morning hasn't been bad at all.

I've had many, many rounds of contrax for the last 1-2 weeks - some of which were such that I was certain I was in labor, but they eventually petered out.  Also at times have had a lot of pressure in pelvic/rectal area.  To the point that I wondered if I've actually been in labor all this time without realizing it and all of a sudden the baby's just going to fall out of me. :)

I don't have a lot of energy - people say to get out and walk but a) I don't feel like it, b) It's uncomfortable to do so.  My natural inclinitation is to rest, so I've been doing a lot of that.  I don't know if it's b/c of my age or the fact that I've gained a lot of weight, or just that it's a different pregnancy, but I do not have the energy level I did when I was pregnant with Cal.  (Plus, I still have some anxiety going into this labor, so I'm not really looking to rush it...I just wish it would happen on its own soon!)

My favorite midwife was on call all weekend and I'm so bummed I missed the chance to deliver with her.  :(

ETA: Cal's birthday is tomorrow - I really don't want them to have to share a birthday!!

  • Oh honey, I'm sorry.  I've been checking up on you on FB and hoping that SOMETHING is happening.  I had Ava two weeks early, and I remember thinking that I can't believe anyone ever has to be OVERdue because I was already so uncomfortable.  Obviously I had the twins early, but the end with them was so difficult -- I remember having to sleep sitting up.  Sending you LOTS of labor dust.  I can't wait to "meet" your new little peanut!

  • That's one of the reasons this board is here, for us to rant/vent about things.  I'm sorry you are so uncomfortable, but you can do this!  LO will be here before you know it and all the pain and diccomfort will be in the past.

I hope the rant made you feel a little better and I hope LO arrives very soon.

  • (((hugs)))being "overdue" is such a strange state to be in. I felt like a ticking time bomb. The good news is, the time is limited now, just gotta hang in there.

Are you doing epo vaginallly? I swear by it, with Eliza I had been using it for a few weeks but as soon as I upped my dose, my water broke within 6hrs.. With Lydia, the day I used it vaginallly labor began!

    Good luck, seasoul!

  • I'm so sorry!  That sounds miserable!

It's a bit of the grass is greener thing since when #2 came early I was so bummed that I didn't get to experience my final pg up to 40+ weeks, not to mention that I wanted her to be a bit late for other reasons too.  I swear fetuses have a sense of humor in their timing and manage to do exactly what you don't want or aren't expecting...especially when it's #2 and they do the opposite of what you'd imagine based on your first experience!

I have been looking for any updates on FB as well, and I ditto emmyloustu's EPO suggestion on the off chance you're not already doing it.

FWIW, one of my best friends was born exactly 4 years after her sister and they loved sharing a birthday.  Of course I totally would be in your shoes if I were in the same situation, but fetuses have a sense of humor, so.... ;-)

Thinking of you!  It won't be long now, sweetie!!! :)

  • I'm sorry.  I absolutely loved being pregnant with Garrison (and still like it very much this time around) but by the time my due date was approaching, I was ready.  I was also 3 days early and had a very large baby so I just assume I will go somewhat sooner with this one but, yikes, I guess that isn't the case necessarily and it must be so frustrating.

I know sharing a birthday isn't ideal but if it happens, I am sure you can find a way to make it a lot of fun.  Either way, I hope it happens soon and you have a smooth delivery and recovery.  Hang in there!!

  • I am sorry.  I was 5 days overdue when we induced with DS.  I was not dilated and he was high. I swear he was just happy up in my belly and I didn't think he would ever come out.  I hope labor comes soon, unless you are hoping it will wait now until after Cal's b-day which in that case I hope it happens the day after!

  • Thanks for the support, everyone!  Haven't tried EPO...haven't done anything to promote labor.  I guess I struggle between wanting the baby out due to discomfort, and feeling nervous about the labor/delivery, so I hesitate to rush it.

  • Wow I have no idea what it would be like to be overdue. You MUST be uncomfortable. Complain away! I would, too! I hope you have this baby and feel better soon :)
  • Awww man I was hoping that the fact I haven't "seen" you over the weekend meant that your LO was here.

Okay I vote that LO is a girl.  Already causing drama. Wink

  • I posted on your FB. Today is the day, I know it!

In all seriousness, I can't imagine how much it must suck being overdue, and I can understand not wanting the kids to share a birthday. I hope Peacock cooperates and comes either today or Wednesday!

Having the same Bday would be cool for the kids!

  • I can't imagine being overdue. A friend of mine was 2 weeks late and apparently she herself was 3 weeks late! I can't even fathom that.

I hope he/she comes soon and NOT on Cal's birthday!

  • I can sympathize Sad  Jasper was a week and one day late it was miserable, the exhaustion swellling and just plain feeling like crap really got to me by the time I went into labor.

Like you I had several rounds of painful and timeable contractions only to have them peter out it was very very disheartening.

All I can say is that it will get better  ((hugs))

  • As a mama who delivered 13 days past my EDD, I completely understand how you feel. It sucks. I, too, was exhausted and uncomfortable and ready to have an outside baby. I hope your LO arrives on Wednesday! My birthday is three days after my brother's--which I still think is cool!
